Mick Foley Your New TNA World Champion

Jonathan WilliamsApr 19, 2009

It was February 2000, Mick Foley was planted through the steel cage at the World Wrestling Entertainment's (WWE) No Way Out pay per view.  He called that match the last of his full time career.

Since that time Mick has had an eventful life.  Writing books, doing blogs, and having some good wrestling matches along the way during his "retirement."

Fast forward now to April 19, 2009.  Foley in the WWE was used mostly to get younger wrestlers "over" with the fans.

But now Foley was in Total Nonstop Action (TNA) wrestling Sting for the championship. Foley had not held a belt since 1999, he was a legendary wrestler who did not need the belt to win fans over.

But it all changed.

Foley started to challenge Sting after the last pay per view.  Most concluded it would be another match where Foley would bleed, have some planned weapon backfire and Sting would retain the belt.

Along the way TNA through a curve.

In a bout which saw Foley and Sting try and use a barbwire bat to good use.  As usual both were bloodied.

This time however, Foley got the better of his opponent as each man crawled over the cage Foley landed first winning the TNA Championship for the first time.

It will be interesting to see where they will go with this.  The TNA does not maintain the same schedule as the WWE.

For example, they have TNA Impact Broadcasts once a week in the same location, they also do less touring.

So Foley could be champion for at least one more pay per view.  Or he could drop it Thursday.  It will be interesting to see where they plan to book this one.
