Why Would The Seattle Seahawks Want Brady Quinn?

Erin McLaughlinApr 19, 2009

Yesterday I heard the latest of the many trade rumors involving Brady Quinn. It was the Seattle Seahawks switching places with Cleveland in the draft. In return, Seattle would get Brady Quinn.

When I first heard this idea, I thought that it makes no sense on either side. Why would Mankok give away Quinn just to move up one place? The whole city of Cleveland would turn on him fast.

Why would Seattle want to do this? They still have Matt Hasselbeck and their career backup in Seneca Wallace. They could draft Mark Sanchez and develop him as the QB of the future. Why bring Brady Quinn into the mix and create a real controversy at that position?

That is what I thought at first. Then I thought about it. If I am the Seahawks, I would do this in a heartbeat. If Cleveland is foolish enough to basically give him to us then okay.

That would change their draft strategy for the better. They could draft either Crabtree, Monroe, Curry, Orakapo, or somebody else. The big thing is getting an immediate impact player.

Now Seattle would have their QB of the future and wouldn't have to wait for him. He has already been through the learning process and is ready for the next phase of development—on the field. Being that the NFC West is really not a very good division, he could develop quite fast.

Then the Seahawks have a major trump card in Matt Hasselbeck. There are many teams who would love to have him. Minnesota, Detroit, Jacksonville, N.Y. Jets, San Francisco, and Tampa Bay are just a few who would be interested. Seattle could get a really good deal for him.

Another option would be to acquire Quinn and get a trade for him if they still want Hasselbeck as their QB.

The bottom line is that quarterback is not an immediate need for the Seahawks but it would be a steal. I can't imagine the Browns would even consider it.

However, if Seattle can capitalize on somebody else's stupidity, go for it.
