NFL Draft 2013: Most Dynamic Under-the-Radar Playmakers Available

Maxwell OgdenMar 28, 2013

As difficult as it may be to believe, the 2013 NFL draft is less than one month away. With this in mind, scouts and general managers everywhere are looking for the next elite playmaker that can make the transition to the next level.

The question is, which of the under-the-radar dynamos are the most intriguing?

Some players come from major programs, but have failed to generate the hype of their counterparts. Others have the talent to match any of the more high-profile playmakers, but have yet to receive a large amount of praise for their abilities.

So which players are we sleeping on?

Stedman Bailey, West Virginia Mountaineers

1 of 5

Position: Wide Receiver

Age: 22

Class: Junior

Height & Weight: 5'10" & 193 pounds

2012-13 Season Statistics

114 receptions, 1,622 yards, 25 touchdowns

Stedman Bailey has not garnered the same extraordinary form of hype that teammate Tavon Austin's received. This comes as no surprise, as Austin has been a consistent producer during his career at West Virginia.

However, don't think for a second that Bailey is a player bound to arrive in the NFL and bust.

Bailey is one of the most dynamic open-field players in the upcoming draft. Not only can he work out of the slot, but he can run deep routes and anticipate where the ball will come down.

From there, his hands are as solid as any receiver in this draft—even if his size suggests they shouldn't be.

Aaron Dobson, Marshall Thundering Herd

2 of 5

Position: Wide Receiver

Age: 22

Class: Senior

Height & Weight: 6'3" & 210 pounds

2012-13 Season Statistics

10 GP, 57 receptions, 679 yards, 3 touchdowns

Aaron Dobson is one of the most intriguing wide receiver prospects in this draft class. Not only does he have extraordinary size at 6'3" and 210 pounds, but he has extraordinary hands.

If you're looking for an elite deep-ball receiver, Dobson is the guy to target.

Although his statistics for 2012-13 may underwhelm, Dobson did miss two games. Even still, Dobson produced at a high level considering the level of talent surrounding him.

When it comes to the NFL, however, Dobson has the talent of a perennial 1,000-yard receiver.

With the build and hands to thrive at the next level, Dobson is a safe pick during the middle rounds. Should a team decide to gamble on Dodson earlier in the draft, they'll instantly reap the benefits.

This young man has the makings of a potentially great receiver.

Joseph Randle, Oklahoma State Cowboys

3 of 5

Position: Running Back

Age: 21

Class: Junior

Height & Weight: 6'0" & 204 pounds

2012-13 Season Statistics

274 carries, 1417 yards, 14 touchdowns, 28 receptions, 224 yards

Joseph Randle is one of the most dynamic running backs available in this year's class. Not only does he have great size at 6'0" and 204 pounds, but he's a physical between-the-tackles runner with great hands coming out of the backfield.

Randle has all of the physical tools and football gifts to be an Arian Foster-type of diamond in the rough.

Not only is he a high-quality player, but he's one of the most productive running backs in the draft. Over the past two seasons, he's accumulated 2,633 yards and 38 touchdowns on the ground.

Randle has also tallied 71 receptions, 490 yards and two touchdowns—dynamic.

Matt Scott, Arizona Wildcats

4 of 5

Position: Quarterback

Age: 22

Class: Senior

Height & Weight: 6'2" & 213 pounds

2012-13 Season Statistics

3,620 yards, 60.3%, 27 TD, 14 INT, 113 carries, 506 yards, 6 touchdowns

If you're looking for this season's Russell Wilson, search no further than Matt Scott out of Arizona. The main difference here, of course, is that Scott stands at 6'2" and 213 pounds.

Consider him to be the complete package by this generation's athletic standards.

Scott is your quintessential Rich Rodriguez in one sense, as he's an elite athlete who can run as well as any mobile quarterback you'll ever see. There is one major difference between Scott and the likes of a Pat White, though.

Scott averaged 38.3 throwing attempts per game—in other words, he can air it out. Quite well, might I add.

Scott completed more than 60 percent of his passes.

Kerwynn Williams, Utah State Aggies

5 of 5

Position: Running Back

Age: 21

Class: Senior

Height & Weight: 5'8" & 195 pounds

2012-13 Season Statistics

218 carries, 1,512 yards, 15 touchdowns, 45 receptions, 697 yards, 5 touchdowns

If you're looking for a dynamic playmaker, then Kerwynn Williams of Utah State is your man. If you don't believe that, simply check the numbers.

Williams tallied 1,512 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground and 45 receptions for 697 yards and five touchdowns through the air.

Williams is small in height, but a powerful presence with the ball in his hands. He's also an elite receiver for his position, which suggests he could play as a third-down back as a rookie.

As he progresses and adjusts to the NFL's pace, Williams should be able to carve out a role as a reliable runner and receiver.
