Ring Wrap With Matt: Friday Night Smackdown Weekly Review (April 17)

Matthew HesterApr 17, 2009

Hello and welcome everyone to my first and what I hope to be my many weekly reviews. Before I go on to my first Smackdown review, let me tell you a little something about myself.

I have been a avid wrestling fan since I was 6 I'm 34 now, you do the math. I have been a pro wrestling ref a few times for some small defunct feds.

And even tried commentating a match once, don't ask it was awful, and no one will ever hear it. But enough of that: on to Friday night SMACKDOWN.

TOP NEWS

WRESTLING: OCT 02 AEW Dynamite/Rampage Pittsburgh
Monday Night RAW

Show opens up guns a blazing firework raising, why who could be???? Well if it isn't every fourth grader's fave, Jeff Hardy. And his opponent well iiiiiiiiittttsssssss  the Big slo...I mean show.

1) Jeff Hardy vs. The Big Show

I was surprised that this wound up being a total squash match big show dominated from the begging all the way to the end.

Towards the end Matt came out distracted Jeff and got a over the top dive for his troubles.

Jeff went back in and was kindly greeted the the Show's killer (chuckle chuckle) right. 1-2-3-over. I didn't see the point in having RAW'S Big Show wreck Hardy, but whatever, it's the WWE.

Promos for Trips backlash match and it was announced that we will see Batista vs. DiBiase later.

Time for what I find a little amusing the Khali kiss cam. I guess they gotta find something to do with him. He sure can't wrestle all that well.

A (wink wink) random woman came out and stated that Khali was romantic blah blah blah. I do have to admit I am looking forward to the Santina segment lol.

Oh boy, it's time for the Divas

2) Maryse (Divas champ) vs. Gail Kim

Kim lost. Absolute rubbish; it's sad what has become of the women's division but I will save that for another time.

3) John Morrison vs. R-Truth

I have to say this was a very entertaining match Morrison is on his way to great things. R-Truth is now a glorified jobber, but it was nice to see him get some ring time. Great match back and fourth ended With Morrison hitting his moonlight drive.

Yet another HHH and Orton promo isn't this Smackdown? Anywho their match next week is now a no-DQ geeee I wonder how that will end. And Teddy Long also announced that that Matt vs Jeff will be a I Quit match that should be good. And will most likely be the end of that feud.

4) Undertaker vs. Shelton Benjamin

Another great match between these two not as well as the first one but great no less. I think Shelton is in store for some big things in the next year.

Shelton appeared to almost have the taker a few times in this one but in the end Shelton tried to Tombstone Taker it was reversed he got one himself for his troubles.

5) Dolph Ziggler vs. U.S. champion MVP

So-so match; I'm not a big fan of Dolph. And not sure why they would have MVP lose going into Raw. I can see wanting to give Dolph some momentum in his new house but come on, a weak cradle over MVP.

Main event

6) Batista vs. Ted DiBiase

A pretty good match I have seen better Batista is still getting back in ring shape Dibiase is looking better and better I would like to see more singles from him. Batista sold his leg well and that was the main focus of Ted's attack.

Decent back and fouth action but in the end Batista scores the win with the Batista bomb.

Well I hope you enjoyed it and please feel free to comment criticize or ask me anything, it's my first time doing this I hope it was okay thanks for reading have a great day. See ya Monday night.
