John Cena: Who's Left for Him to Face at WrestleMania?

Bill PivetzMay 31, 2018

In John Cena’s 10-year career, he’s faced the who’s who of the WWE at WrestleMania.

He took on legends like Shawn Michaels, Triple H and The Rock. He faced veterans Batista, JBL, Randy Orton, Edge and Big Show. He even put over The Miz at WrestleMania 27.

Some of these matches were great, like his match with Michaels, while others were passable, like the one with Miz.

In nine WrestleMania matches, Cena has been in the main event four times and the second-to-last match three times. There’s no doubt that Cena is the biggest draw for the WWE and well deserving of his main event status.

No one knows how much longer Cena plans to wrestle, but there are still some superstars he needs to face at "the Showcase of Immortals" before he calls it quits.

Daniel Bryan

John Cena and Daniel Bryan haven’t crossed paths since 2010, during the Nexus feud.

Since then, Bryan has become a constant on WWE programming as a part of Team Hell No with Kane, and Cena is still the biggest name in the company.

Everyone is expecting Bryan and Kane to break up eventually and go back to singles competition, and when that happens, a match with John Cena shouldn’t be too far away.

These two have contrasting styles, with Bryan being technical and Cena using his strength. It would be a great match for fans to see.

Dolph Ziggler

Dolph Ziggler and John Cena feuded toward the end of 2012. They had a great ladder match at TLC for Ziggler’s Money in the Bank briefcase, which Ziggler retained when AJ Lee turned on Cena.

Ziggler still holds the briefcase, and many expect him to cash it in at WrestleMania. He’s a great talent on the mic and in the ring, and a long title run will help Ziggler’s main event push and could eventually lead him back to Cena.

Cena has worked with younger stars in the past, and he shouldn’t have any problem putting Ziggler over at WrestleMania XXX or XXXI.

Randy Orton

Yes, these two fought at a WrestleMania before, but it wasn’t a singles match.

I tracked the careers of these two Superstars from the time of their 2002 debuts until now. Of all the times Randy Orton and John Cena faced each other between 2007 and 2009, they didn't square off at WrestleMania, which is a shocker.

Right now, Orton and Cena are on two different paths. Cena’s at the top, fighting for the WWE Championship, while Orton is feuding with The Shield.

If and when Orton turns heel, I expect these two to reignite their feud and go one-on-one at WrestleMania within the next two years.

CM Punk

4 of 5

John Cena and CM Punk were embroiled in the best feud of 2011. Punk won the WWE Championship at Money in the Bank and left the WWE. He returned toward the end of July and defeated Cena to become the Undisputed WWE champion.

They revived their feud in 2012 when Cena cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase against Punk at Raw 1000. They continued feuding at SummerSlam, Night of Champions and Survivor Series.

Punk is facing The Undertaker at WrestleMania 29, and Cena will challenge The Rock for the WWE title.

These two have great chemistry in the ring, as seen in an awesome match on the Feb. 25 edition of Raw. Now, Cena and Punk need to put that to use at WrestleMania.

Undertaker

5 of 5

As much as we won’t like to admit it, it’s easy to see that Undertaker is on his last legs. He hasn’t wrestled in almost a year and will be facing one of the best in CM Punk at WrestleMania 29.

With a probable win increasing his record to 21-0, Undertaker will most likely take another long break.

Once Royal Rumble rolls around, this feud should begin its build. John Cena questions what’s left for him in WWE. He has the record for number of WWE title reigns, won the rumble match twice, is a Money in the Bank winner and headlined multiple WrestleManias.

He’s done everything, except one thing—defeat The Undertaker and be the man to end the streak.

In all likelihood, this match will take place at WrestleMania XXX and could possibly be Undertaker’s last match. Who better to face him in his last match (besides Shawn Michaels) than the face of WWE, John Cena.
