What B/R Has Done For Me This NBA Season
With the NBA '08-09 season finally over, I decided to write an article thanking B/R and what it has done for me this season.
Without further adieu...I give you my Bleacher Report encounter/experience.
It began six months ago, when I remember lurking through the Internet and coming across a website named Bleacher Report.
(Previously to B/R, I was a NBA and MLB fantasy nutcase...which I sadly still am today. I knew absolutely everything one would need to know in order to win your fantasy league, from waiver wire pick-ups, to trading, to plain old strategy; CBS Sports was my main source of daily fantasy information).
But back to the story. At first I did not exactly know how the B/R website worked, so I quickly registered and scanned through the entire NBA and fantasy NBA section.
About three hours later I came across the site once again during my college night class. Since not much was going on in class, I decided to dive into my first article.
It must have taken me at least twenty-five minutes to finally come up with a creative title. After serious consideration, I labeled the piece, "Shhh These Sleepers Are A Secret."
The article was a simple NBA fantasy outlook on which players would breakout this season for fantasy owners.
It took me about twenty minutes to fully research, find the right picture, and finish the B/R process before publishing my first article.
Once I was finished, I closed my laptop and walked out of class.
On my way home, my phone buzzed and alerted me that I had two new e-mail messages. I went on to open the first, only to find out that my B/R article was picked up by CBS Sports NBA Fantasy Section.
To put it in one word, I was amazed.
I remember thinking to myself, the website that I look at each and everyday for fantasy advice had my article linked on their fantasy basketball news section!
I never thought in my life I would EVER see my analysis and input on a nationwide website like CBS.
The other e-mail was sent from Dave Morrison, B/R's Community Coordinator. He wrote in the message how he really enjoyed my unique style of writing and that as of right then, I was basically the head of the fantasy basketball section.
That day really changed my life.
I was currently an undecided major at the time and never had a love for something that I could see myself doing day in and day out for the rest of my life.
B/R has given me a rare opportunity to experience a passion for something that I never thought existed.
It has shown me that I can actually make a career out of doing something that I truly love to do.
I have now been writing consistent sports articles for the past six months and cherish literally every moment of it.
I have met many people and have come a long way since joining the B/R team.
I give much thanks to D. Michael Lee for letting me on board to www.LayupDrill.com, Fantasy NBA Community Leader John Lorge for your help and advice, and of course most of all, to the four Bleacher Report creators for coming up with the greatest idea for a website ever.
You guys have given me a sense of direction in my life and have made me realize what I want to do for the rest of my many days.
I now have had close to 20 of my articles picked up by CBS Sports and Fox sports for both fantasy NBA and fantasy MLB analysis. I have gotten a chance to write my own fantasy NBA blog on www.mvn.com/fantasynbazone, and I am currently in the process of writing for the sports section in my college newspaper. (I am now a Journalism major.)
I plan to work extremely hard to become a basketball sports writer in my future. I know that if I give it my all, I can really make a career out of doing what I love.
Words cannot express how grateful I am for encountering this website. You guys have changed my life forever and I thank you more than you can ever imagine.
Now let the NBA '08-09 Playoffs begin!
