Tennessee Volunteers Football: Week 2 Spring Practice Stock Report

It's still early in spring practice for the Tennessee Volunteers, but the stock of a few individuals has changed in just two weeks.

Butch Jones' organized chaos is still new to the team, and a running theme has been the extreme pace of practice. Players have said repeatedly how out of breath they are at the end of the day.

Defensive coordinator John Jancek has scrutinized the tackling fundamentals of the Vols, which is a welcome critique for fans after the last three years.

Here's the Week 2 stock report.

Eric Gordon

Stock Change: Down

Eric Gordon, who is the presumed favorite at the nickelback and potentially the No. 2 cornerback after Justin Coleman, has not yet participated in spring practice.

Butch Jones commented on the situation (UTSports.com):

Eric's on campus. He's taking classes. Eric's taking care of some things off the field that occurred. So we're working through that, and he has some things that he has to do in order to get back practicing.

"

Whatever the issues are, it's important that the rising senior get back on the field for the Vols.

Michael Palardy

Stock Change: Up

After being one of the highest rated kickers in his class, Michael Palardy's Tennessee career has been tumultuous. The goal of spring practice has been to put as much pressure on him as possible, test his resolve and improve his consistency.

Butch Jones has sprayed water on him and stuck his fingers in Palardy's ears to try to throw him off, but the senior from Florida has been knocking kicks through all along.

Stock Change: Up

Since stepping on campus, Butch Jones has aimed to rejuvenate a dormant program. With the commitments of such prospects as Jalen Hurd, Todd Kelly, Jr. and Vic Wharton, all is well on the recruiting front.

Tuesday at practice, his stock ticked upward again. For the first time for most players, Jones took the red jerseys off of the quarterbacks, allowing them to be hit for a few plays.

Why? To reward great effort from the defense.
