NCAA Brackets 2013: Streaking Teams to Be Wary of in March Madness

Dan TalintyreMar 19, 2013

Brackets are set for the 2013 NCAA Tournament (printable version here), with opinions on which teams will progress to the various rounds bound to differ.

Making your predictions for which teams to take into the Sweet 16 and which to leave out, or which mid-major will make a shock run to the Elite Eight can be very difficult, and it's important to consider a number of factors when filling out your picks.

One of the biggest keys is seeing which teams are on hot streaks, with a momentum-filled team one of the toughest things to stop in any sport.

Regardless of how good their opponents might be, a streaking team is one that definitely must be considered—and the 2013 NCAA Tournament is no different.

Read on to see which streaking teams you should be wary this year.

Ole Miss Rebels

Led by Marshall Henderson, Ole Miss is on a very strong run heading into March Madness that culminated in its SEC 2013 Tournament win.

The Rebels have won their last five and are getting the job done in close games against good teams—something that should suit them in the tournament here.

Look for the Rebels to try and continue that streak against Wisconsin.

Davidson Wildcats

Few teams in the NCAA Tournament this year can boast the winning streak of Davidson, which comes in to the tournament on the back of 17 wins.

Yup, 17 straight wins.

They triumphed in the Southern tournament final comfortably, and will no doubt be filled with momentum heading into their second-round match against Marquette this year—something that will be very tough for the Golden Eagles to contend with. Bucknell Bison

Having won the Patriot League and boasting a winning streak of seven straight games, Bucknell could well emerge as a surprise winner in the round of 64 here.

They play against a strong Butler side that is no stronger than some of the sides that they've beaten this year and will no doubt back themselves to extend their winning streak with a win here. Especially given that, out of their four losses all year, only one of them was by more than three points.

Saint Louis Billikens

With a potential showdown against Louisville emerging early in the tournament, a streaking Saint Louis could well cause an upset in 2013.

The Billikens won the Atlantic 10 tournament, and whilst they're winning streak is only four games on paper, the reality is that this team hasn't lost in regulation since January 12, 2013. They've suffered two overtime losses and 15 wins since then—four of which came against seeded teams.

Look for that strong run from Saint Louis to continue this year and potentially, guide it past the No. 1 seed Louisville in the Sweet 16.
