Tiger Tangents | LSU Tries To Break Streak On CBS

Justin GoarApr 16, 2009

CBS is starting to look ahead to the upcoming college football season and target the games they want on their slate. CBS and ESPN are both contracted with the SEC to show their games during the season. With a couple of exceptions, CBS usually gets the first choice to pick the SEC games they want to broadcast.

LSU is tentatively scheduled in four slots on CBS’s schedule but none are official yet.

Oct. 3            LSU at Georgia 2:30 p.m. (CST)

Oct. 10          Florida @ LSU 7:00 p.m. (CST)

Nov. 7          LSU @ Alabama 2:30 p.m. (CST)

Nov. 21          LSU @ Ole Miss 2:30 p.m. (CST)

LSU lost to all four of these teams last year and has to play three of the four on the road. But when it comes down to it, how the Bayou Bengals fare in these four games will be the measure of their season. LSU will be looking to break last year's 0-5 record on CBS, which included the above four teams and Arkansas.

The only night game on CBS last season was the away thrashing that the Gators gave the Tigers. That means that the other four games were day games. Call it trivial if you must but LSU fans hate home games during the day. We despise them actually.

It means less time to tailgate and most of all it means a game in Tiger Stadium not “Death Valley”. It’s difficult to explain in words, but it’s just different.

That’s why LSU will have a puncher’s chance if they take on Florida at night this year. I have that game marked in the “L” column as of now but I feel better about it (slightly) now.

The game at Athens will be important for both teams looking to build momentum and make it to Atlanta as a loss here especially for Georgia may be all the breathing room the Gators need to repeat as SEC East Champs.

LSU will look to avenge last year’s overtime loss to Bama in T-town this year. No need to build up this matchup as both sides have plenty of fuel for this fire. More than that however, the game be the death knell for the division hopes of the loser.

Equally important will be LSU’s journey to Oxford to take on Ole Miss. Another rivalry with a great history that needs no padding, this game might mean the difference between Ole Miss’s first trip to Atlanta or still being the only team in the SEC West never to go to the SEC title game.

With the ebb and flow of schedules through the years, it’s no secret that odd years favor LSU just look at the history. However this year with LSU facing rotational Eastern opponent UGA on the road, juggernaut UF even at home, plus Ole Miss and Bama on the road the Tigers have a tough task ahead.

Other games on the schedule that might find their way to television on ESPN is:

Sept. 5          LSU @ Washington

Sept. 12       Vanderbilt @ LSU

Sept. 26         LSU @ Mississippi State

Oct. 24          Auburn @ LSU

Nov. 28         Arkansas @ LSU

The Arkansas game, which is usually played the day after Thanksgiving on CBS, has been “booted” so to speak for the Iron Bowl. As of now, the game will take place on Nov. 28.
