Report: Indianapolis Colts Are Not Pursuing Victor Cruz Trade with Giants

Doug RushJun 8, 2018

Colts owner Jim Irsay dropped a bombshell on Twitter.

Early Sunday morning, Irsay tweeted that the Colts were working on a potential trade and gave the fans a major hint when he said what position it was for.

"

Since then, many Giants fans all over have been wondering if the trade Irsay was talking about was for Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz.

Dan Benton of Giants 101 speculated on Sunday about the idea of a sign-and-trade type deal between the Colts and Giants involving Cruz.

However, according to Mike Wilkening of NBC's Pro Football Talk, Irsay and the Colts are not going after Cruz.

"

“(It’s) not Cruz, no,” Irsay said, according to Jim Corbett of USA Today. Other NFL writers wrote similarly on Twitter.

"

The Giants placed a first-round tender on Cruz last Monday, so that if teams want to sign him to an offer sheet, the Giants either can match any offer placed on Cruz, or they could let him leave and as compensation, receive a first-round draft pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Cruz is looking for a long-term deal with the Giants after recording back-to-back, 1,000-yard receiving seasons with the team in 2011 and 2012.

The Giants are hopeful that they will sign Cruz to a long-term deal, as he has hired Tom Condon to be his new agent going forward.

Condon is the agent for Eli Manning, Mathias Kiwanuka and Mark Herzlich, and has negotiated their deals with the Giants in the past.

All day, Giants fans were worried about the Colts having a deal to lure Cruz away from the Giants.

With teams not too keen on surrendering its first-round pick, it's looking more and more like Cruz will be a Giant in 2013.
