When Will the Greed End at Dale Earnhardt Inc.?
It has been eight years since NASCAR lost the leader and very vocal driver of Dale Earnhardt Sr. on the last lap of the Daytona 500.
Since that day, many services have been held at DEI remembering the day he dies and his birthday.
I have attended two of those days in 2002 and altough I was happy to be part of the fan sharing stories and just being at the place where my hero worked and lived, I vowed never to go back.
Yes, there were free things going on and even free hand-out decals honoring the day, but it was very clear that Teresa Earnhardt wanted to make money those days and indeed she did.
I stood in line for 45 minutes to but my Dale Sr. memorabilia and many stood longer. We did not mind it was for our hero, who died giving his fans the thrill we all wanted each race.
When these days kept happening year after year, something got lost in the meaning and it truly became just a money-making day. This year the greed has become even more pronounced.
Oh they are still have a service on Dale's Birthday, April 29, but it is for two hours only. The BIG day will now be on May 14-15, the very days before the All-Star race, when 200,000 fans are in Mooresville!
There are lunches and dinners with behind-the-scenes looks at DEI (FOR A PRICE) and finally Teresa has shown her true colors.
I am sure this is NOT what Dale Sr. would have wanted, and if this is how she intends to keep the shop open, guess again, lady! I am NOT going to spend one more cent on anything that goes into her hand.
Will the REAL Dale Earnhardt fans PLEASE not fall for this and remember our hero the way he would want us to. Light a candle, say a prayer, and keep your money in your pocket, OR better yet go buy some Dale Jr. stuff!
