LSU Football: Can They Repeat?

Michael McMurrayApr 1, 2008

The LSU Tigers' season a year ago could best be summed up in one line, "Living On a Prayer."

The Tigers had everything go right for them and seemingly everything go wrong for them last year. Fourth down conversions, last second touchdowns, fumble recoveries, overtime losses, kickers scoring touchdowns, injuries... you name it, it happened to the Tigers last year.

Yet, this year, the Tigers are doomed to Florida's fate, so they say. Florida struggled last year, after winning a National Championship the year before. The Tigers are losing their team leaders in every category, but they have back-ups.

How about Harry Coleman, the back-up safety? Nobody knew who he was, until he forced a fumble, and recovered another in the National Championship game. The quarterbacks are Perrilloux, who played great in the SEC Championship game, and Jarret Lee, a highly recruited redshirt Freshman. Tight end Richard Dickson returns. Along with wide receivers Brandon Lafell and Demetrius Byrd.

The Tigers still have a full arsenal of running backs with Williams, Holliday, Scott, and Murphy. Also, Chad Jones returns, a hard-hitting safety who forced a fumble to set up the go-ahead touchdown for the Alabama game last year. Ricky Jean-Francios returns this year, after being suspended the whole regular season. After playing nine teams that went to bowl games last year, the Tigers schedule this year should be a bit easier.

WRONG!!

The Tigers do have an easy out-of-conference schedule, but in the conference they play Florida, South Carolina, Auburn, and Arkansas on the road. At home they get Alabama, Georiga, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss. The Tigers are not as talented as last year, so they don't have the expectations.

Overall the Tigers could have a good season or a mediocre season, but we will have to wait and see.
