Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Here's a look at some of the latest, complete with analysis.
Steven Jackson Headed to the Packers?
The Green Bay Packers haven't ranked in the top 20 in yards per carry since the 2009 campaign.
It's been all Aaron Rodgers, all of the time on offense.
So when Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette tweeted on Wednesday that veteran Steven Jackson and the Packers were discussing a three-year deal, it opened eyes throughout the league.
The fact that the Packers averaged 27.1 points last season (fifth in the NFL), despite averaging less than 4.0 yards per carry speaks volumes about the caliber of Rodgers and his receiving corps in 2012.
But it also puts quite the strain on Rodgers.
Fans can't expect him to win another Super Bowl without some semblance of a running game. Yes, the Packers won in 2010-2011 despite a poor running game, but it's not the norm.
Jackson, who posted the third-best 2012 grade among this year's free agent running backs (per ProFootballFocus.com), would be a great addition to the Packers. He's shown he can still produce—even when surrounded by a lackluster offense in St. Louis—and his dedication to the game has never been questioned.
It's a win-win.
The Packers finally get a running game, and Jackson gets a shot at his first ring.
Brandon Gibson to Jets?
Brandon Gibson may be one of the most underrated receivers in the 2013 free agent class.
According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the four-year pro visited the Jets on Wednesday, but the team wasn't able to secure a deal for him...yet.
As noted by Mehta, Gibson's next planned trip was to Miami, but with the Dolphins signing Mike Wallace and re-signing Brian Hartline, there may not be as much interest in him in Miami now.
According to ProFootballFocus.com, via the site's Day 2 free agency blog, only Rob Gronkowski converted a higher percentage of targets into touchdowns and first downs last season. Gibson ranked ninth in 2012 among receivers in this year's class, according to PFF.
The Jets could use a receiver. Jeremy Kerley led the squad with 827 yards and two touchdowns last season. They do have the No. 9 overall pick in the draft, which they could use on someone like Tennessee receiver Cordarrelle Patterson, but—after the last couple of years—it's probably best for the team to find a proven wideout this offseason.
Antoine Cason to the Cardinals?
Cornerback Antoine Cason visited the Arizona Cardinals on Wednesday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
The Cardinals are looking for a corner to line up opposite Patrick Peterson, but fans of the club should probably hope this is just a visit. Per PFF's Day 2 free agency blog, Cason had a solid 2010 campaign but has gone downhill the past two seasons.
Among free agent cornerbacks this year, Cason ranked fourth-to-last in 2012.
Cason had four interceptions and 17 pass deflections in 2010. He had two picks and 11 pass deflections in 2012.
