Pat Miletich Discusses Strikeforce, UFC 97, and Fighting Again

Pat Miletich is a trainer, fighter, and former UFC champion. He’s also becoming an accomplished fight commentator, and joined Ground & Pound Radio to discuss the Strikeforce card he helped call.

The drama started the day before the actual event, when Christiane “Cyborg” Santos showed up to weigh-in seven pounds overweight, something Miletich thought was unfair.

“If you sign a contract to fight at a certain weight you’ve got to do it,” Miletich said. “In all my years of coaching and fighting we’ve only had one guy from our team not make weight and that guy is no longer with us.”

Once the fights did get under way, Miletich was joined ringside by lead announcer Guy Johnson and MMA expert Mauro Ranallo, two announcers that Miletich says he has great respect for.

“These guys are true pros,” Miletich said. “If people only understood how tough it was in front of the camera, and dealing with hitting the lines correctly, the emphasis, the voice fluctuations you have to have.”

“It was a blast to learn from them and work with them,” Miletich said.

Despite his success in the broadcast booth, Miletich is far from ready to hang up his fight gear, and expressed his interest in fighting for Strikeforce.

“I know that I have a couple of great fights left in me, and I know I can knock people out if I touch them,” Miletich said. “If I hit you once, I know I can hurt you.”

Ground & Pound Radio broadcasts live every Tuesday at 9:30 pm EST (6:30 pm PST). The show is hosted by MMAMadness.com’s Hector Castro and Fight! Magazine’s Johnny Dunn. For more information, or to download previous episodes, go to www.blogtalkradio.com/mmamadnessradio.
