My Tennis Fantasy Involving Players and Spells (Part 2)

Rohini IyerApr 15, 2009

My previous fantasy article dealt with the men's tennis stars and the spells chanted on them. This piece, is a sequel from the women's tennis perspective and I hope everyone likes it as much as they did the earlier one.

I. Venus Williams - Spell Casted: Expecto Patronum: Expecto Patronum is a defensive spell to ward off the Dementors [guards of the wizarding prison Azkaban] by conjuring happy thoughts.

Venus seems to be doing just that; whipping thoughts from her repertoire of victories to propel herself forward among the competitive grind.

II. Serena Williams - Charm to be invoked: Ferula: Ferula is the mending charm to fix any minor body damages and injuries. It invokes a bandage and a splinter to repair the break.

Given Serena's current repeated injury sagas, its advisable that she makes use of this spell to take care of her physical health. As it so happens, magical healing is quite faster than Muggle [non-magical] treatment.

III. Dinara Safina - Spell Casted: Stupefy: To stun people with a force from the wand is the true effect of this spell also known as the "Stunning Charm."

The rapid ascension of Safina in the 2008 season gives way to the idea that she might be using the spell; mostly on her rivals. It also appears that her recent victim is Serena Williams, who will make way for her as the new World No. 1.

IV. Maria Sharapova - Spell Casted: Sectumsempra: Its the spell casted to cause grievous bodily harm on purpose.

Maria Sharapova's medical affliction, from which she hasn't yet recovered, is probably due to the infliction of "Sectumsempra" on her. It is quite serious, as she is out of competitive action close to a year now and demands immediate corrective spell treatment.

V. Elena Dementieva - Charm Used: Apparition and Disapparition: To "Apparate means to appear at a particular place suddenly, and to "Disapparate" means to disappear with the same suddenness.

It, however, requires a lot of concentration to apparate and disapparate because in case the procedure gets wrong, the effects can be disastrous.

Dementieva, though looks like an old hand at this. She appears and wins a tournament while disapparating mysteriously from the Slams. Her concentration though commendable needs to be channeled in the right direction.

VI. Ana Ivanovic - Spell Casted: Diffindo: Diffindo means to rip or tear a physical object.

Since Ivanovic's 2008 Roland Garros run, she is constantly under cuts and tears from oppositions. She failed to keep her place at the top spot, making suspicions come slowly true regarding the destructing charm.

VII. Jelena Jankovic - Curse Invoked: Imperio: It is an unforgivable curse where the person casted with the jinx is forced to meet the perpetrator's demands and commands.

Some of Jankovic's earlier round exits give an impression that she is blindly floundering and following whatever her opponents make her do. There is hardly an iota of resistance from her side so as to thwart them.

VIII. Amelie Mauresmo - Spell Used: Liberacorpus: It is a spell actually a counter-spell to bring down a person who is floating in the air. The actual spell is "Levicorpus."

Amelie's recent form after her periodic success a couple of years ago, is a sort of pin pointer that she might have been under the influence of "Levicorpus" before, and more recently "Liberacorpus," so as to negate the effects of the original spell and cause her career to spiral down.

IX. Victoria Azarenka - Charm Invoked: Specialis Revelio: Specalis Revelio is used to reveal hidden powers and secrets.

In Azarenka's case, her excellent outing so far in the season is an indicator that she might be under the influence of this spell and though the spell doesn't add anything to the existing talents and strengths, it definitely acts as a catalyst for the same.

X. Jelena Dokic - Spell Used: Riddikulus: Riddikulus is a spell used against a creature called as "Boggart" [shape-shifter] which feeds on a person's innermost fears and worries.

Dokic's comeback after a tumultuous career and personal episode is a clear testimony that she is has been using "Riddikulus" to mock her weak points and overcoming them.

P.S.: Source of inspiration for this piece and specially dedicated to Sergey Zikov.

P.P.S: A special thanks and mention to Frankie for providing the original idea for a Tennis/ Harry Potter article.
