Penn State Football: Complete Pro Day Results and Analysis

John McGonigalJun 8, 2018

For some Penn State football players, the program's annual pro day offered another chance to build off the NFL combine and impress scouts.

For others, it was their only shot.

Guys like Matthew McGloin and Stephon Morris were left empty-handed when it came to an invite to the combine, but took full advantage of the chance to show their stuff.

A total of 14 draft-eligible seniors were on hand at the Lasch Building and Holuba Hall to showcase athleticism, skills and everything in between.

In terms of NFL representation, 23 of the 32 organizations were represented, including the eight playoff teams of 2012.

Also, Nittany Lions head coach Bill O'Brien was on hand along with the rest of the coaching and conditioning staff.

That all being said, let's take a look at how the seniors performed on Monday.

Matthew McGloin, QB

1 of 8

Height: 6'1''

Weight: 207 pounds

Vertical Jump: 28 inches

40-Yard Dash: 4.89 seconds

Without a trip to the combine, the Nittany Lions' all-time leading passer (6,390 passing yards, 64 touchdowns) went into the pro day with a chip on his shoulder (and rightfully so).

While he doesn't possess the physical attributes one would hope in an NFL signal-caller, it should be interesting to see how much interest he gauges from pro teams following a massive transformation this season.

Matt Stankiewitch, OL

2 of 8

Height: 6'3''

Weight: 302 pounds

Broad Jump: 8'2"

Stankiewitch, who is looking to follow in the footsteps of former Lions lineman Stefan Wisniewski, didn't compete in the majority of events as he did so at the combine recently. He recorded a 40-yard dash time of 5.43 seconds and 27 reps at bench press, among other events.

Mike Farrell, OL

3 of 8

Height: 6'6''

Weight: 303 pounds

Bench Press: 20 reps

Broad Jump: 9'1" and 9'2"

40-Yard Dash: 5.08 seconds

Farrell, an overlooked presence on the Lions' offensive line, provides pretty solid height at 6'6''—something that should give him a better chance to be drafted or picked up as an undrafted free agent.

Jordan Hill, DT

4 of 8

Height: 6'1''

Weight: 303 pounds

Broad Jump: 9'3"

Vertical Jump: Unavailable

40-Yard Dash: 4.97

The biggest note from Hill's day was his improved 40-yard dash time compared to the combine. In Indianapolis, the All-Big Ten defensive tackle clocked at 5.23, cutting his time down nearly 0.3 seconds since then.

Sean Stanley, DE

5 of 8

Height: 6'1''

Weight: 243 pounds

40-Yard Dash: Unavailable

Bench Press: 18 reps

Stanley, after dealing with injury once again in 2012, was healthy and looking to prove his athleticism to NFL scouts at the pro day.

Gerald Hodges, OLB

6 of 8

Height: 6'1''

Weight: 243 pounds

Shuttle Drill: 4.25 seconds

Vertical Jump: 35.5 inches

Hodges, who didn't try to improve on his middle-of-the-pack 40-yard dash time (4.78 seconds) from the combine, did show promise with a nice posting on the shuttle drill.

Stephon Morris, CB

7 of 8

Height: 5'8''

Weight: 168 pounds

40-Yard Dash: Morris said afterwards that two scouts unofficially timed him at 4.16 and 4.2. He later tweeted saying his official time was 4.35 seconds.

Vertical Jump: 35 inches

Broad Jump: 10'

While Morris impressed with his speed, he made relative news with what he said following the workouts.

As John Stuetz of The Daily Collegian reports, Morris said he was "pissed off" when he didn't receive an invitation to the NFL combine.

"

It hurt, because I’ve been looking at the Combine since I was like seven years old, since the NFL Network came on TV. I remember I used to always look at it and go through every defensive back and write down their names and their times. I just always wanted to go.
