Norwich City: 3 Players Who Could Play for a Top EPL Team

James KentJun 8, 2018

I think it’s fair to say that Norwich City are enjoying another very good season in the Premier League, so there will be some curiosity on some members of the squad. It will certainly be interesting to see if any players attract summer transfer interest.

And with that in mind, I thought it would be fun to look at some players that could do a job at the business end of the Premier League table. So, sit back and enjoy my latest slideshow…

Sebastien Bassong

1 of 3

Sebastien Bassong is a member of the Norwich squad that has impressed as much as any other. Of course, he was a summer signing from Spurs and has proved to be money very well spent. I think it’s not so much an issue of contention on his ability elsewhere.

Having previously played for Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League his pedigree is clear. He is certainly good enough to be part of a top four squad, the only question is if he could do enough to feature in that sort of team on a regular basis.

Andre Villas-Boas clearly felt that he couldn’t and that decision led to him joining the Canaries. Bassong may feel he is at the perfect place if he isn’t going to get regular games at one of the so-called bigger clubs. But an evaluation on ability tells us that there aren’t many better central defenders in the league.

John Ruddy

Mark Bunn has done an excellent job in covering for the injured Ruddy. But we are all painfully aware on how good John Ruddy is, and I think we are also a little bit nervous about that. Every team needs a quality goalkeeper and I’m sure some of the bigger clubs have Ruddy in mind for a summer swoop.

His pedigree within the England setup and performances within the Premier League shows that he is more than ready to play for one of the big boys. However, Norwich City will be hoping that he instead decides to stay loyal to the club and tries to progress his career in Norfolk, especially since he may not be first choice elsewhere.

Robert Snodgrass

All Norwich City fans will have been impressed with Robert Snodgrass’ performances in a Norwich shirt this season. I think he has added another dimension to the club’s attacking options, but that’s harder to see in a more defensive team.

Nevertheless, he is usually full of running and doesn’t stop working until the game is over. But he is certainly not a headless chicken; there has been a significant end product to his game this season in both goals and assists. There is surely no doubt about his abilities at a bigger club, but like the other players mentioned he may not get the same level of game time elsewhere.
