New York Yankees Look to AJ Burnett for Redemption

Bronx Baseball DailyApr 14, 2009

I don’t know what’s more embarrassing, Gabe Kapler getting struck out by Nick Swisher, or the Yankees needing to go to an outfielder to stop the bleeding.

Regardless of the answer, they are going to be relying on AJ Burnett to to help them bounce back tonight.

Burnett is making his second start as a Yankee. In his first start he got the Bombers their first win of the season and tonight he is looking to help them get back to .500.

The lineup will have a little bit of a different look from last night. First, because Mark Teixeira will be in the lineup, as he is dealing with some inflammation in his wrist, but the switch hitter seems to have no problem batting left handed.

Brett Gardner will be leading off because Johnny Damon is out with the flu. That returns Derek Jeter back to the No. 2 spot in the lineup.

Here are tonight’s pitching matchups:

Yankees: AJ Burnett 1-0, 3.38 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, 6 K’s, 1 BB, 5.1 Innings.

Rays: Matt Garza 1-0, 1.29 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 5 K’s, 3 BB’s, 7 Innings.
