Darrelle Revis Reportedly Drawing Trade Interest from Eagles

Jun 6, 2018

The New York Jets are reportedly trying to trade veteran cornerback Darrelle Revis (h/t NFL.com), and one of the teams showing some interest in a possible deal is the Philadelphia Eagles.

According to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the organization is reportedly preparing to attempt to strike a deal for the Pro Bowl CB:

"

There's already a rumor brewing in certain NFL circles that Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has been crunching the numbers and putting together an offer to bring the 27-year-old Revis to Philadelphia.

As hard as it would be to believe that the Eagles—a team with a new head coach and new schemes on both offense and defense—would be actively looking to move several future draft picks for a player coming off a serious knee injury (h/t Sporting News), the rumors have some validity.

Philadelphia may actually have some leverage if it goes to the Jets with a solid trade now, especially considering Revis is reportedly pushing the franchise to get a deal done fast (h/t ESPN):

"

The Darrelle Revis camp is pushing for a resolution ASAP—i.e. a trade—because it's concerned about the cornerback market drying up. There are a handful of good free-agent corners out there, namely Sean Smith (Dolphins) and Aqib Talib (Patriots). Dunta Robinson, released by the Falcons, was gobbled up by the Chiefs. Teams such as the Bucs, Cards, Patriots and Broncos are shopping for a cornerback, and it's highly unlikely they'd be interested in dealing for Revis if they spend $8 million-a-year on someone else.

"

There is no question that, when healthy, Revis is the best cornerback in the NFL, but the health concerns with the knee and the $12 million annual salary will strike fear in the heart of any team trying to make this move.

If Philadelphia feels the risk is worth the reward in a trade for Revis, the team will likely be filling a need. It’s possible both starters from last season—Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie—could be gone in 2013

Asomugha and the Eagles have been working on a deal to restructure the veteran’s contract, but a lack of progress has resulted in the feeling that the team could part ways with the former blockbuster free-agent signing (h/t USA Today).

Rodgers-Cromartie is an unrestricted free agent this offseason and was not franchise tagged, likely resulting in the CB leaving Philadelphia.

The possible loss of two top-tier cornerbacks could result in the organization feeling it must make a move to secure up a position of need in the tough NFC East.

If the franchise is willing to make a trade for a CB, why wouldn’t it trade for the best in the league?
