Kobalt Tools 400 2013: Start Time, Lineup, TV Schedule and More

Mike MoraitisMar 9, 2013

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will take to Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday for the Kobalt Tools 400 in what will be the third race of the season thus far.

Weather has become a problem this weekend in Sin City, as Friday's qualifying had to be cancelled due to the rain, so the starting lineup for Sunday's race will be decided by owner points from 2012 and 2013.

That will leave 2012 Sprint Cup champion Brad Keselowski starting in front, followed by Clint Bowyer and four-time race champion Jimmie Johnson.

Last year's champ, Tony Stewart, will start in the No. 9 hole.

Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle, Kasey Kahne and Carl Edwards all had great showings in the practice runs and should be primed to make a push for victory come race day.

Danica Patrick will start near the back of the field on Sunday in what has been a rough week for her already. While attending a race at a dirt track in Las Vegas on Thursday, Patrick was hit in the head with a rock, per Bob Pockrass of Sporting News.

Let's take a look at everything you need to know for the Kobalt Tools 400.

When: Sunday, March 10, at 3 p.m. ET

Drivers to Watch

Jimmie Johnson

It's always a good race to watch the five-time Sprint Cup champion, but Johnson will be making a bid to become a five-time winner of this race. Johnson enjoyed a three-peat from 2005 to 2007 and took the checkered flag again in 2010.

It's still very early in the season, but Johnson is already at the top of the Sprint Cup standings after winning the opening race of 2013 at the Daytona 500 and taking second at the Subway Fresh Fit 500 in Phoenix.

Johnson is already off to a stellar start to the year, and his favorable pole position should guarantee he's in the running once again this Sunday.

Tony Stewart

Stewart's 2012 performance was not only successful, but it also took him a step closer to history. With his win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway last year, Stewart now has just two tracks left that he has yet to conquer: Darlington and Kentucky.

Ranked No. 23 to start the season, Stewart placed a lackluster 41st at Daytona, but followed that up with an eighth-place finish in Phoenix.

Hopefully for Stewart, the upward trend will continue in this race, and he can better his performance in the Subway Fresh Fit 500. Stewart will start in the No. 9 hole, so his chances at a repeat win in Las Vegas are looking good from the start.

Carl Edwards

Edwards has also enjoyed great success in this race in the past, as he is a two-time winner. Edwards took the checkered flag back in 2008 and 2011.

Judging from how his car has run in practice this week, he's got a great opportunity to continue that success. In each practice run, Edwards has finished in the top five, and his car will be one of the fastest when it hits the track in Las Vegas.

Edwards is currently ranked No. 11 in the standings and is coming off a win at the Subway Fresh Fit 500, so he's certainly carrying plenty of momentum with him into this race.
