Brawn GP Diffuser Situation About to Be Diffused!
Paris is currently the setting for a surprise Formula One race where the drivers are taking a back seat and the Judges are setting the pace.
Ferrari are leading the non-diffuser-using teams in questioning the legality of the bodywork that has been the biggest talking point so far this season, beating even KERS to the headlines.
Ferrari are possibly forgetting a few things whilst on their quest for Brawn GP to be stripped of their points and lead of the championship.
Firstly, Ross Brawn masterminded the dominance of the prancing horse over the last few years, without the designs of Brawn Ferrari would still be in the best of the rest position that they were occupying whilst Schumacher was winning his first title with Benetton.
Ferrari should be well aware that Ross Brawn knows how to design a car within the rules.
Secondly, and maybe most importantly in this debate, 2007 saw Ferrari win in Australia despite them running an illegal floor to the car. The part was disallowed from the remainder of the season, however, crucially, Ferrari were allowed to keep the points that they had scored.
With this precedent in mind if the Court of Appeal sees the rear diffuser as illegal then they should follow the precedent and allow Brawn GP to retain their points and not use the part in future.
However, I suspect that the design brain of Ross Brawn will have produced a perfectly legal car that Ferrari are simply jealous of and ill-equipped to catch.
