My Tennis Fantasy Involving Players and Spells

Rohini IyerApr 13, 2009

In my imagination I have always equated the racquet in a player's hand to the likes of a wand in the Harry Potter world, always felt that the game shots resembled the waving of the wooden stick and casting of the spells by the witches and the wizards.

Giving my imagination a more free rein this time, I charted out a list of 10 players along with a compilation of 10 spells which I felt they have put on themselves or somebody has jinxed them. Though not all are positive, I have tried to be as accurate as possible.

I. Gilles Simon- Spell Casted: Relashio: Relashio is a spell which resembles a force used to expel to the opposition by sending fiery sparks at him.

Given the sudden upbeatness of Simon and his eye-snapping rise to the Top 10, "Relashio" it appears, he is operating with.

II. Lleyton Hewitt- Spell Casted: Rennervate: Rennervate is a spell used to rejuvenate people who have been sick or ill.

After Hewitt's win at Houston and his comeback post injuries and surgeries, Rennervate was what he was trying to do though so far, he seems to be still groggy due to the after-effects of the spell.

III. David Nalbandian- Spell to be Casted: Reparo: Reparo means to repair in our parlance without using any muggle [non-magical] equipments.

Nalbandian needs to cast Reparo on himself so that he can mend back to the once strong rival that he was. The spell in itself is a simple one with no side effects whatsoever.

IV. Jo-Wilfred Tsonga- Charm Used: Tarantallegra: Tarantallegra is a charm used to make the legs shake uncontrollably.

Tsonga seems to have very hyperactive legs which jump like here and there, doing this and that; sometimes even crossing over to the opponent's side of the net in the force. The state of his legs makes it obvious that he is a regular user of the charm although its unclear whether they are giving the effect he wants.

V. Novak Djokovic- Charm Used: Cheering Charms: These are a collection of charms to make the person magicked, feel contented and happy.

Since Nole these days has been so very relaxed and contented without bothering to the threat of Murray lurking around his heels, there is no question that Cheering Charms have been used. I doubt if Murray is the person who has tricked Nole somehow so that when he grabs the World No. 3 bench and the effects of the charm wear off, there is nothing Nole can do.

Also it maybe possible that Nole is considering an alternative career of being a stand-up comedian and therefore to aid him has done the job himself.

VI. Andy Murray- Anti-Jinx Used: Reducto: Reducto in essence means to blast any solid object which is blocking a path or a route.

Murray's stupendous run from last year's US Open till now sometimes virtually destroying his opponent is a clear indication of this anti-jinx for no other spell has such forceful effect when it comes to removing obstacles as "Reducto."

VII. Andy Roddick- Spell Used: Sonorous: A spell to magnify the voice without using a microphone.

Roddick's voice when it comes to dealing with umpires and tackling press conferences has become quite loud and boisterous giving a huge suspicion as to whether he is been using Sonorous. A few more incidents if they occur, though should clarify everything.

VIII. Marat Safin- Spell Casted: Expelliarmus: Expelliarmus is a disarming spell often giving a spilt second advantage to the caster. It is a basic spell taught to the beginners while entering a wand duelling competition.

In Marat's example, he is using it on himself thereby making his racquet fall everytime from his hand and the force of his mouthing "Expelliarmus"is the sole reason behind them breaking. He needs corrective spell lessons immediately to solve the predicament.

IX. Rafael Nadal- Charm Used: Accio: Accio is the calling charm. When a wizard wants something, he points the wand in that direction along with the charm "Accio" and the desired object comes in his hand. It however takes a lot of practice to make the charm successful.

Nadal seems to have been practicing "Accio" in Roland Garros before trying it out with resounding success in Wimbledon and Melbourne Park with "Accio Flushing Meadows", the only untried till now.

X. Roger Federer- Spell Casted: Obliviate: Its a memory charm to cause amnesia: partial or full depending on the caster.

In Federer's case from the past three- four tournaments including the Oz Open, he looks like a man with "Obliviate" written all around him. Who was responsible for doing this is unknown but after his semi-final saga with Nole at Miami, its evident that someone is doing a serious job out of it.
