Marat Safin Decks Bleacher Reporter (humor)

Robert OrzechowskiApr 13, 2009

These days it's not always good to ask too many questions about Roger Federer.  If you do, do not ask Marat Safin any of them.  Safin was doing a post-match interview with a reporter (who shall remain anonymous) from the Bleacher Report.

The reporter started to ask Safin why, in his opinion, Federer was struggling lately.  "Listen, can we talk about something else?"  Ask me about my retirement because next year I am not here anymore," said Safin.

Do you think Roger will retire before he reaches your age? The reporter asked,  Safin's eyes widened.  "I said about MY retirement not his."

"Right let's talk about your last year on the circuit," the reporter went on.  Safin relaxed and breathed, finally uttering "OK."

"Do you expect to play Roger at the French Open?" the reporter asked.  Safin started to go red.  "I expect to play in the French Open and I will do my best to beat whomever I play against!"

"When you get knocked out of the tournament, do you think Roger Federer will beat Rafael Nadal this year?" the reporter asked.

Safin gritted his teeth.  "I told you I don't want to talk about Roger Federer!"  The reporter was on a roll.  "Do you think you can beat Rafa? "  Safin calmed down a bit.  "Yes, I believe that I can hit with him and hopefully expose a weakness."

The reporter closed in for his next question.  "Do you think you have a better chance of beating Rafa than Roger Federer?"   Safin's forehead vein bulged and he started a groan that crescendo-ed up into a yell.

Safin reached back and threw a punch right into the reporter's forehead propelling him backwards, collapsing his chair and sending him sprawling to the ground.  The reporter rubbed his head and looked up.

"Not bad...but Federer's forearm is much more deadly."  he said.  Safin made a desperate attempt to attack the man but security was called in.  Safin was restrained until the reporter left.

The reporter was subsequently banned from all tennis engagements and is now writing articles for Metallica.
