Affliction Going Head-to-Head with UFC 100 July 11? No Way!
Vice President of Affliction, Tom Atencio has come to realize that there has been rumors of his third event going head to head with the UFC 100 event on July 11.
He says "Nothing has been finalized, but that would be absurd." He also went on to say that he would like to rank up there with the UFC as a competitor, but "only the strong will survive."
The UFC put Pride out of business and isn't afraid to do it to anyone else. He would like to see a situation where Strikeforce, Affliction, and the UFC can all compete and survive in this sports world.
Atencio was one in the attendance at the Strikeforce's last event with the main fight being Shamrock vs Diaz. He says, "that the situation is all rumors and would not make any sense to go through with." That show came out with great attendance also for that fight-card.
Affliction's next event is suppose to have the fighters Fedor Emelianenko vs TBA, Tim Sylvia vs Paul Buentello, and Josh Barnett.
Affliction has some very good talent, Sylvia, Fedor, Arlovski. The only thing is the UFC has so much going for it, it's like a train once it gets going, it's hard to stop.
Strikeforce is a fairly new brand to me. I'm not sure how long they've been going on, but sources have said that a very big name is negotiating with that company. Who you might ask? None other than "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" Tito Ortiz.
Ortiz left the UFC because he felt that the UFC didn't respect him as a fighter nor as a man.
Ortiz also has six months left before he can fight. The 15-6-1 fighter has had major surgery on his back, but that might make me tune in to a couple of Strikeforce events. Strikeforce made $750k at the Nick Diaz vs Frank Shamrock fight, So they must know what they're doing.
Well all I've got to say is that I like to see good fights, no matter what brands produce them, I think everyone agrees.
However, UFC just has it going for them, and whatever they're doing works, keep it up. Good luck to Ortiz to get to where he wants to be in his career, and good luck to all of these brands and their quests.
