Chinese Taipei advanced to the next round of the 2013 World Baseball Classic on Tuesday, despite losing to South Korea, 3-2.

Taipei was leading, 2-0, before South Korea tacked on three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, courtesy of an RBI single by Dae Ho Lee and a two-run homer by Jungho Kang.

Chih-Kang Kao singled to start the ninth inning off for Taipei, but South Korea right-hander Seunghwan Oh came in to strike out the next two batters and get Che-Hsuan Lin to pop out for the final out of the ballgame.

Kang was the big player for South Korea, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run, while Lee went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run.

South Korea left-hander Won Jun Chang was charged with two runs in 3.2 innings, but Taipei didn't score after the fourth inning.

Chinese Taipei, South Korea and the Netherlands each finished with a 2-1 record in Pool B play, but Taipei and the Netherlands advanced by virtue of the Team Quality Balance tie-breaker (Runs scored - innings played on offense divided by runs scored - innings played on defense).

In the other WBC game on Tuesday, China defeated Brazil, 5-2.

Brazil was leading through seven innings, 2-0, but China erupted for five runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Lei Li was walked with the bases loaded to start off the scoring for China in the eighth. Ray Chang knocked a two-run single to left field to give China the lead, 3-2. Two more Chinese batters were eventually walked with the bases loaded to make it 5-2.

After Brazil's Reinaldo Sato singled to start the top of the ninth inning, JC Muniz grounded into a double play. Alan Fanhoni struck out to end the game.

While both Brazil and China were eliminated from the WBC on Tuesday, China captured its first win in WBC history.
