One Week In: Nine Quick Thoughts on the Opening of the 2009 Season
With our national pastime now in full swing Here are my early season thoughts.
1. As always, the Texas Rangers have the hitting to make a run but the overall problem they have is finding consistency in the pitching department to last all 162 games.
2. Chicago Cubs fans don't get too excited just yet. Before I start getting attacked by Cubs fans, I will say I follow the Cubs and they are my favorite NL club. They do have experience and the look of a team that could make a run but let's be patient and not pop our corks too soon.

3. If your a fan of the team from Queens get ready, this could be your year. With a revamped bullpen and a lot of potential on offense, you very well might be playing in October.
4. Phillies, win one for Harry. I know its tough for you today Phillie nation because of the sudden passing of Harry Kalas but in his memory go out there and win one for Harry. God bless you Harry, we will miss you.
5. Let's stay in the NL East some more shall we? Washington fans with an 0-6 start things are not over yet but they are certainly not looking good. Is it football season yet?
6. Can the thin air of Colorado help the Rockies rebound in 2009? Rebounding is possible but not likely. With the likes of the Diamondbacks and Dodgers to contend with in that division it may be hard to make a run but, you never know.
7. Will the Yankees open New Yankee Stadium with a run to the playoffs? Personally, I hope not but if money had anything to do with it you'd win the World Series every year.
8. Without a professional basketball team now and a lacking NFL team Seattle your best chance at making the playoffs this year is with your Mariners. However, the big question is can their young pitchers hold up over the long season?
9. Houston we might have a problem. They have a good mix of hitters that could help them win a few games, but I see their major problems being the same as Texas and that is pitching.
Here's hoping the 2009 season turns out alright for every team's fans. Play ball!
