Clemson Football 2008 Season Overview

Dylan DunlapApr 13, 2009

Clemson football was a disappointment in 2008. And that's an understatement at best. The Tigers start the season ranked No. 9, their highest ranking since 2002

The Georgia Dome hasn't been kind to the Tigers. They fell to Auburn 21-17 on January 2, 1998, in the Peach Bowl, losing again in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl on New Years Eve in a slightly closer game 23-20, and then losing to Alabama 34-10 in a heavily favored game.

Citadel was an easy Military Appreciation Day win with a score of 45-17.

NC State was yet another easy win, with a score of 27-9

SC State was another easy win but hey, they have an amazing marching band. The Tigers had their first, and only, shutout of the season, in a 54-0 trouncing.

Maryland was a tough game, and a loss with a score of 20-17.

Wake Forest was yet another team that stopped the Tigers in their tracks. The Demon Deacons won 12-7.

On October 13, 2008, Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden resigned, and following this wide receiver coach Dabo Swinney became the interim head coach of the team.

The fans were buzzing too, with shirts proclaiming "Yabba Dabo doo!" at the Georgia Tech game, which Clemson lost 21-17. However, it was a close game throughout.

The next week Clemson defeated Boston College 27-21 at Boston College, which wasn't something Bowden did in the four years since the Golden Eagles entered the ACC.

After that the Tigers got destroyed by Florida State 41-27.

On the flipside, the next week, the Tigers then destroyed Duke—as usual.

The Tigers then beat Virginia in a very dull game 13-3. It wasn't a beautiful win, but a win, is a win. It's another "W" to add to the list.

The Tigers then beat South Carolina, their in-state rival in an exciting, yet cold game, 31-14. The Tigers gave it to their rivals in the "Battle of the Palmetto State."

Though the 2008 season wasn't great, the 2009 one is looking up, and so is Clemson Tigers football.
