Santino Marella: Why WWE's Funny Man Needs To Start Wrestling Again

Whether or not you agree with the recent goings-on involving Santino (or Santina) and the divas battle royal, there is no denying this "Italian" has been keeping the WWE Universe's funny bone tickled for many weeks.

But we seem to be forgetting that, whatever his role is within the WWE at the moment, eventually he is going to have to wrestle again.

Humor will always be needed within the world of professional wrestling, but Santino has provided only that as of late.

Within a form of entertainment that offers wrestling as its main draw, it seems odd that such a big star within one of the world’s biggest companies rarely steps in the ring to actually fight.

So can he wrestle anymore?

I have gone through some YouTube footage looking at some of his wrestling matches, before he seemed to take a back seat as the comic relief, and it isn’t pleasant viewing.

His wrestling ability is average at best, and his recent Intercontinental title run can in no way be considered as a reward for wrestling well. It merely is representative of the WWE’s want to push him.

Santino has only been wrestling for around four years now, so to call him practiced at his art would be an overstatement. I find it hard to believe we can see too much of an improvement in the near future, either.

Not to mention the fact that Santino looks the most out-of-shape person on the roster, more so than Steamboat. That is saying something.

Where does our comedic pizza-lover go from here?

Well, in all honesty, I can only see this going one way. Eventually his tenure as the jester will wear thin and he'll be replaced by some more leprechauns (or something of equal stupidity).

Santino has been priceless, but, in this business, you need to be able to wrestle in some capacity. He is not unable to wrestle, but I find it hard to believe that while life is easy and he is within a comfortable position in the WWE he will be doing anything to improve his wrestling.

I love the man for what he has done over the past few months, but I hope the apparent naivety of some of the employees guiding the stars of the WWE will not force his career to end prematurely.

Wake up, Santino, and smell the pasta!
