Scranton Offense Strong in Third Straight Victory

Bronx Baseball DailyApr 12, 2009

The Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees (3-0) are a team expected to be strong on the mound this season. If Saturday night is any hint of what’s to come, their bats aren’t too far behind.

Trailing 5-3 after Lehigh Valley(0-3) scored four runs in the fourth to take the lead, Scranton stormed back to take the lead scoring at least one run over the course of the next four innings. Scranton starter Alfredo Aceves scattered seven hits and five runs over four innings of work in the Lehigh Valley and would have been tagged with the loss if the offense didn’t kick it into high gear.

Leading the offense was Juan Miranda and Austin Jackson, who combined to drive in seven runs. Miranda hit his second home run of the season and walked twice, going 2-3 on the evening. The highly touted Jackson had a strong night of his own, with three hits including a triple while driving in three runs.

Todd Linden also hit a home run for the Yankees.

Other Notables:

Give some props to the Scranton bullpen. Zach Kroenke pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit to pick up the win while Anthony Claggett closed up the game with three scoreless innings of his own, allowing three hits and striking out five to save a rough day for Aceves.
