Dee Milliner Reportedly Will Undergo Shoulder Surgery After 2013 NFL Combine

Alabama Crimson Tide cornerback Dee Milliner will reportedly undergo surgery on a torn labrum in his right shoulder after he takes part in the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine this week, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Milliner was ranked as the No. 1 cornerback coming out of this season (per NFL.com) and was expected to be a top-five pick in the 2013 NFL draft. 

As per Schefter’s report, Milliner is expected to do every workout drill at the combine (except the bench press) despite suffering from the torn labrum.

The injury occurred at some point during the season, and Milliner will have to continue to push through the pain in order to raise his stock at the combine.

While Milliner will attend and participate in this week’s scouting combine, the surgery will inhibit him from attending Alabama’s pro day, according to the ESPN report.

Milliner’s representative, Tony Fleming, told Schefter about when doctors expect the potential first-round draft pick to be ready to return to the field post surgery:

The doctors have informed us that he will be 100 percent and fully recovered in time for training camp in July. We will be providing all NFL clubs information prior to surgery and updates close to the draft.

"

At 6’1”, 199 pounds, Milliner is the ideal size for a safety at the pro level, and his ability to play through injuries and still be a threat is something NFL teams will take note of.

The fact that he has an injury in the first place will raise a red flag, but as long as all the medical papers check out, this could actually benefit the star in the long run because it shows his toughness and durability.

Milliner had a great season with the Crimson Tide (assisting in both stopping the run, making tackles in the open field and deflecting passes), and a surgery on a torn labrum will likely not hurt his draft stock much.
