MLB Day Four Predictions

Todd KaufmannApr 9, 2009

Rough day for yours truly yesterday going 6-9 (20-18 overall), but never fear, with 11 games on the schedule today I'm feeling a comeback performance.

New York Mets 2-0   (Oliver Perez)

Cincinnati Reds 0-2   (Bronson Arroyo)

TOP NEWS

Washington Nationals v Los Angeles Angels
New York Yankees v. Chicago Cubs

12:35pm EST - The Great American Ballpark - Cincinnati, OH

Pre-game note:  Oliver Perez was worse than bad during Spring Training, so the Mets are hoping he can put that behind him.

Todd's pick:  The Mets' pitching has been strong over the last two games, look for that to continue today.  Mets sweep.

Detroit Tigers 1-2   (Rick Porcello)

Toronto Blue Jays 2-1   (Ricky Romero)

12:37pm EST - Rogers Centre - Toronto, Canada

Pre-game note:  Both pitches making their major league debuts, could make for a more offensive game or both pitchers could impress and keep it low scoring.  I'll take the Jays to win.

Seattle Mariners 1-2   (Jarrod Washburn)

Minnesota Twins 2-1   (Glen Perkins)

1:10pm EST - Target Field - Minneapolis, MN

Pre-game note:  The Twins have needed late rallies for both wins on the 2009 season.

Todd's pick:  I like Washburn to keep another Twins' rally from happening.  Mariners win

Tampa Bay Rays 1-1   (Matt Garza)

Boston Red Sox 1-1   (Daisuke Matsuzaka)

1:35pm EST - Fenway Park - Boston, MA

Pre-game note:  Garza was the starting pitcher for the Rays when they clinched the pennant against these same Red Sox.

Todd's pick:  I'm gonna take Garza to keep the Rays ahead and get the win

New York Yankees 0-2   (A.J. Burnett)

Baltimore Orioles 2-0   (Alfredo Simon)

1:35pm EST - Camden Yards - Baltimore, MD

Pre-game note:  The Yankees need a great performance from new Yankee A.J. Burnett to keep the Orioles from starting the year 3-0 for the first time in 12 years.

Todd's pick:  I want to take the Yankees, especially with Burnett on the hill, but after Sabathia and Wang both pitched horribly, I'm a little on edge about that.  But I can't imagine the Yankees not beating up on Alfredo Simon.  Yankees win.

Pittsburgh Pirates 2-1   (Ross Ohlendorf)

St. Louis Cardinals 1-2   (Chris Carpenter)

1:40pm EST - Busch Stadium - St. Louis, MO.

Pre-game note:  Pirates look to win their first season series at Busch Stadium this decade.

Todd's pick:  Chris Carpenter is back after missing the 2008 season.  Cardinals will defend their home turf.

Cleveland Indians 0-2   (Carl Pavano)

Texas Rangers 2-0   (Brandon McCarthy)

2:05pm EST - The Ballpark at Arlington - Arlington, TX

Pre-game note:  Pavano makes his Indians' debut after not such a fun time in Yankee land.

Todd's pick:  Rangers have been very impressive in both of their wins, that will continue today.  Rangers win

Kansas City Royals 1-1   (Kyle Davies)

Chicago White Sox 1-1   (John Danks)

2:05pm EST - US Cellular Field - Chicago, IL

Pre-game note:  Danks will make his 2009 debut after a great 2008 season, finishing at 12-9 with a 3.32 ERA

Todd's pick:  I'll take Danks getting a win in his first start, Sox roll

Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1   (Clayton Kershaw)

San Diego Padres 1-2   (Kevin Correia)

3:35pm EST - Petco Park - San Diego, CA

Pre-game note:  Kershaw makes his 2009 debut while Kevin Correia makes his San Diego Padres debut.

Todd's pick:  Correia hasn't had much success against the Dodgers (1-1, 5.19 ERA).  The Padres need him to be better, but they also need their offense to show up.  Kershaw will be too strong and will lead the Dodgers to the series win.

Milwaukee Brewers 1-1    (Manny Parra)

San Francisco Giants 1-1   (Matt Cain)

7:05pm EST - SBC Park - San Francisco, CA

Pre-game note:  Cain has had a lack of offense to back him up, scoring no runs in 29 of his 66 career starts for San Francisco

Todd's pick:  Will it be a battle of offenses tonight?  The Giants won round one while Milwaukee and their bullpen won round two.  I'll take the Giants to give Cain some help and win round three.

Oakland A's 2-1    (Brett Anderson)

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1-2   (Jered Weaver)

10:25pm EST - Edison Field - Anaheim, CA

Pre-game note:  Anderson will make his major league debut after leading the U.S. Olympic team to a bronze medal win over Japan this past August.

Todd's pick:  All three games have been close, all decided by three runs or less.  Look for Jered Weaver to keep the A's from taking the series win.  Angels win

Enjoy the games today!
