Giants-Brewers: No Thanks to Tim Lincecum

Mj OctiganApr 8, 2009

The San Francisco Giants' '08 Cy Young winner, Tim Lincecum, got his first start of the '09 season on Tuesday afternoon. His start came against the Milwaukee Brewers who beat the Giants all six times they faced them in '08.

Lincecum was expected to have a tremendous outing but it turned into a nightmare once the game started. Three innings into the game, Giants manager Bruce Bochy pulled the plug on Lincecum.

Lincecum gave up four hits and three runs before getting pulled. To build on that he also walked three batters, including Mike Cameron, who was walked on four pitches. On the plus side of Lincecum's three innings, he did strike out five batters.

There was a bright spot in Lincecum's day other than his five strikeouts and that was the big win the Giants posted on Opening Day.

The Giants snapped the Brewers' five-game Opening Day win streak with some very powerful bats.

Tuesday's lead off man, Randy Winn, went 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. The 34-year-old Winn ended the night with a .333 batting average and a 1.333 slugging percentage.

The Giants' most powerful bat, Aaron Rowand, really gave a burst to their offense. Rowand went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a solid home run. He would finish the night with a .667 batting average and a 2.000 slugging percentage, the best out of the Giants offense.

First baseman Travis Ishikawa and catcher Bengie Molina also offered their bats to the Giants' lineup. Ishikawa and Molina would combine for a four RBI night and a clutch home run would come from Molina, late.

The Giants would end a 12-hit night with a 10-6 win over the Brewers. The win wasn't posted by Tim Lincecum, but we look for him to bounce back with a win against San Diego on April 12.
