New York Yankees Stumble In Opener, Boston Red Sox Fans Rejoice

Bare KnucksApr 8, 2009

Shelling out the big bucks doesn’t necessarily equate to success. The New York Yankees continue to dish out top-dollar and have yet to see positive results.

After failing to make the postseason last year, the Yankees went on a mammoth spending spree. Resurrecting a new Yankee Stadium estimated at $1.5 billion along with the acquisitions of CC Sabathia, Mark Teixeira, and A.J. Burnett, the NY Yankees spent close to $2 billion dollars.

In the season opener, Sabathia gave up six runs in four innings pitched, while Teixeira went for a goose-egg at the plate as the Yanks fell to the Baltimore Orioles, 10-5. I know it was the first game, but this could be a painful year for Yankee fans.

Let’s be real, the Yankees are in shambles and need to get their priorities straight. New York should be more concerned about the success of the team than they are about building a flashy new stadium.

Money has clearly gotten into the heads of several Yankee players. The Yankees should try acquiring blue-collar players rather than greedy hot shots seeking fat contracts.

Sabathia and Teixeira are considerably overpaid. There is absolutely no way they live up to their new contracts.

Derek Jeter is an American icon, but he truly is one of the worst defensive players in all of baseball. I think we all know where A-Rod’s money went...I’ll give you a hint: it starts with an "S" and ends with "oids."

New York can continue to throw money around, but my guess is they will continue to struggle.

Here’s an idea: try finding some real baseball players instead of these prima donnas obsessed with riches and glamour. Sure a $1.5 billion dollar stadium is nice, but try putting a winning team on the diamond first.

I know it’s early, but do not be surprised if the Yankees fail miserably. They are on the down and out and really need to rearrange their priorities. Yankee fans; prepare for the worst, I mean, if you don’t have high expectations, then you can’t really be disappointed, right?
