Manchester United: Don't Sweat, Sir Alex

Salaar ShamsiMar 29, 2008

When Manchester United played their first game of the season. They played out a goal less draw against Reading and even worse had Wayne Rooney injured.United initially faced great obstacles.Another draw at Pompey inwhich Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off followed. Then bad came to worse when United were defeated by City rivals,Manchester City.It had certainly not been the start that the United fans were looking for.

Sir Alex Ferguson was looking for an answer from one of his players.A performance from a player that would motivate the whole team.Cristiano Ronaldo answered the call and since then has never looked back.Overcoming every obstacle in the way,Whether it was diving claims against him or a rift with Rooney.Man United's Portugese winger has certainly come home this season. He has scored over 30 goals in all competitions this season, the latest of those came in Yesterday's clash with Aston Villa.A cheeky back flick from Ronaldo ended up in the back of the net. When you score goals like that, either you are too good or very lucky.Ronaldo, fortunately for United is both of them.

United's new arrivals have finally settled in well into England's topflight football.Apart from Anderson all of them have scored for United aswell. The Brazilian Wonderkid,Anderson, when he was brought over from FC Porto,he was termed overrated and pricy.Anderson, however, has defied all odds and has recently started to impress with his performances in the floating-midfielder role. His Performances have won him praise from some famous figures in the football world including Luis Felipe Scolari,Pele and Brazilian Coach,Dunga.I hope to see Anderson to settle in as a long term replacement for United legend,Paul Scholes.

Carlos Tevez is no exception,The Argentine Striker has already scored 16 goals in 38 appearances this season.Nani has also impressed his supporters by scoring 4 sensational goals in his first season at Old Trafford.Nani has shown that he has the potential to be a long term replacement for United legend,Ryan Giggs.

Brown-Ferdinand-Vidic-Evra.This is the United defense line which has been outstanding this season. All of them have played a huge role in helping United to the top of table.Wes Brown deserves special praise for ensuring that the United fans don't miss Gary Neville in the skipper's absence.

Wayne Rooney has also got back to scoring goals to ease up the pressure on Ronaldo.Wayne Rooney scored his 50th United goal last night and later added another to that tally.

From here on,It is very simple for United.Every game is very important and now is the time when the schedule gets tighter and tighter.Sir Alex Ferguson knows how to rotate the squad better than most and United fans will hope the Scot has a few tricks left up his sleeve.

All these fixtures are very important.United's fate in Europe will be decided by next week. The fixtures against Roma will be hard fought but I expect United to come out on top on aggregate. These fixtures and the travelling is bound to have an impact on fatigue levels of the squad.Manchester United can not afford to underestimate the likes of Middlesborough,Blackburn,Wigan and West Ham at this point because a shock defeat could prove fatal for their title hopes.(United face Wigan and West Ham on 3rd May and 11th May respectively).

United's games against Arsenal and Chelsea are the most significant of the lot as the could well decide the potential winners of the Premier League.United have Arsenal at Old Trafford but face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. As Sir Alex has said the game with the Blues on 26th April is likely to hold the key to who wins the Premiership. If United can even get 12 points from their remaining five games then the title will almost certainly be heading for the Theatre of Dreams.

As it stands,United are firm favourites to lift the title, two years in a row.Unless Manchester United have a miserable run in the League, they will be Champions and can then shift their focus to Europe with a possible clash against Barcelona in the semi-finals instore for them.
