Brooklyn Nets Barclays Center Bus Elevator with NBA Stars

Ever since Jay-Z opened the NBA's newest arena, the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, it's an elevator, of all things, that has been the stuff of legends.

NBA players arriving in Brooklyn get quite a first impression: a million-dollar lift for their team bus. It's the only elevator and bus turntable in all of sports.

Real estate is expensive in New York, and bus ramps take up space. Forest City Ratner Companies found a modern solution and eliminated the ramp. As you can see in the video, that solution was met with plenty of awe from various NBA visitors, including Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade and Joakim Noah.

The following are the specs for the elevator (via Linda Chiarelli, Forest City Project Executive for construction of the arena):

  • Capacity:  80,000 pounds
  • Length:  81 feet
  • Width:  14.5 feet
  • Height: 14 feet
  • Descent: 27 feet
  • Quantity:  Two truck elevators, side by side
  • Cost:  $1 million per elevator
