Barcelona vs. Getafe: Live Stream, Preview and Prediction for La Liga Clash

Mike HoagFeb 10, 2013

Barcelona will host Getafe in a La Liga clash on Sunday. The match will take place at noon (local time), making it the first such midday fixture at Camp Nou in over 27 years.

Besides that scheduling abnormality, the big storyline for this match is that Lionel Messi has the opportunity to score his 300th goal with Barca. All it will take for the star is to net two shots and the milestone is his.

Barcelona is also looking to continue to hold down the top spot in La Liga after recording consecutive draws in its last two outings.

Match Preview

Barca’s club is being pulled in a multitude of different directions with Championship League considerations and now Spanish international distractions arising.

Getafe will again employ 30-year-old keeper Jordi Codina in goal. He took over for Miguel Moya last weekend and will get the nod again here in perhaps his biggest challenge yet. Even a fatigued and over-extended Blaugrana side is a formidable challenge for any keeper.

The struggling Azulones are in a tough position. They’ve recorded just seven points (29 overall this season) in their last eight fixtures and have slipped all the way to 12th place in the La Liga table.

Barca can and will extend those struggles and perpetuate the downward spiral that has become Getafe’s fate this season.

The Catalan side may be spread out personnel wise but is clearly the superior club. They will struggle at times to stay in sync with some unfamiliar faces earning regular time. In the end they’ll come away victorious because they’re too talented and dominant on the pitch, especially at Camp Nou.

Prediction: Barcelona 3, Getafe 1
