UNC Tar Heels: Great Job This Season

tyler griggsApr 6, 2009

Well once again, for the second time in five years, the North Carolina Tar Heels are the NCAA Champions. Ty Lawson had a great game with 21 points and eight steals.

North Carolina started the tournament against 16th ranked Radford with a 101 to 58 win over them. The Tar Heels just completely dominated that game. One overall player of that game was Wayne Ellington with 25 points and eight rebounds.

They then played LSU. UNC put the Tigers in their cage for the night. They played this game well, but not as big a victory as the first game. Then again a win is a win by one point or 100.

Wayne Ellington also did very well during this game, but Lawson was right there behind him—both scored 23 points and Lawson trailed by only two rebounds. Lawson scored 21 of his points in the second half, after returning with a toe injury from the first half. Also, Marcus Thornton didn't do bad, scoring 25 points and six rebounds.

They then went on to the Elite Eight to face No. 4 ranked Gonzaga in a 98 to 77 win over them. Tyler Hansbrough played very well this game with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Jeremy Pargo led Gonzaga with 16 points and three rebounds.

North Carolina went to face No. 22 Oklahoma in a 72 to 60 victory in their Final Four game. The Tar Heels played in a record 18th Final Four game. Lawson did great in this game with 19 points and five rebounds. The Sooners were ok, led by Blake Griffin with 23 points and 16 rebounds.

In the semi-final game, it was North Carolina vs. Villanova with a 83 to 69 victory. Lawson led this game with 22 points and seven rebounds. Scottie Reynolds led his team with 17 points and four rebounds. The Wildcats played well but shot 33 percent from the floor. They could not stop the phenomenal Tar Heels from returning to the big one yet again.

In the final game, North Carolina won 89 to 72. Lawson did absolutely fabulous with 21 points and eight steals. This is the Tar Heels' fifth NCAA Men's Basketball Champions title.

This is Coach Roy Williams' second title with UNC. The Spartans went down early and just were not able to catch up. They had a couple of good runs throughout the game, topping off with their final of 72 points.

I congratulate the Tar Heels on their win and Mr. Roy Williams with his. I, myself, am a University of Memphis Basketball team fan, and hopefully, we and every other team will have better luck next season with new players and new talent.
