Bleacher Report Awards: EPL Community, Jan-Mar 2008

Salaar ShamsiMar 29, 2008

The BRA-EPL Community Awards will be held four times a year (on a three month period). Inspired by Tim Pollock's article about the BRA'S. Here we are with another edition of those awards, this time only in relation to the EPL Community. A selective process was used to grind out deserved winner for the selected categories. I hope the awards selection is considered fair and accepted by all. However, feel free to express your views if you feel otherwise.

There are various categories in these awards like the Emerging Writer, Most Creative Writer, Most Thought-Provoking Writer, Most Controversial Writer, Most Consistent Writer, Best Editor, Most Comical Writer, Most Underrated Writer, Most Investigative Writer and, last but not least, the Best Writer.

The Emerging Writer only refers to the new guys on the scene who have an immediate impact on the community with brilliant articles from the word 'go'.

After a period of real hard-thinking, I went with Jeff Harbert. I think Jeff's brought out some great articles in little time and has real writing potential.

The Most Consistent Writer is next on our list. This was a particularly hard one to choose from with Simon, Sheikh, Republic, Shaka, Nicky, Gerry, Tim, Brad, Ashish, Mike, Andrew, Houmes, and Matt all in contention.

Eventually, a decision had to be made. I felt Andrew McNair deserved this award because he has been on the spot with all his recent articles.

The Most Investigative Writer is a new award and it refers to those writers who go deep into situations for analysis and investigate possible outcomes.

There was a three horse race for this award. Kyle Conolly, Simon Martin, and Matt Binks were nominated and the winner was Simon Martin.

Best Editor is the next category and there were two nominees to choose from, Ryan Alberti and Jay Middleton.

Despite Ryan's exceptional editing abilities, I thought Jay Middleton deserved the award.

The Most Creative Writer award is bagged by Gerry McDonnell.

The Most Controversial Writer was another hard choice; eventually I came to a conclusion where either Ashish Wesley or Matt Binks could both be winners. Ashish Wesley was chosen as winner for being more consistent.

The Most Underrated Writer is for the unsung heroes who never get recognition for their work which is brilliant as it is.

Jonathan, Chris, Peter, David, Adam, and Simon were all considered, but Shaka Anderson eventually did enough to fight off his competitors.

The Most Comical Writer is another award which is relatively new. For a writer who has a sense of humor and his articles are enjoyable.  Tim, Sheikh, and John were considered. John Houmes eventually won the race.

The Most Thought-Provoking Writer is the latest of these new awards, referring to a writer who can really write an article which pops a question in the reader’s mind.

Personally, this is the sort of award that I think even I could get but there are others who have the ability to dazzle and thrill with their articles. The Republik of Mancunia is one such person and also the winner of this award.

The last award on the list is for Best Writer. Probably being the biggest award it was hardest to choose from because a group of ‘A-List’ writers were all possible winners. Andrew, Simon, Sheikh, Tim, ROM, Jeff, John, Nick, Clement, Brad, Karl, Ashish and Matt were the nominees.

THE BLEACHER REPORT ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE COMMUNITY AWARDS FOR THE PERIOD OF JAN-MAR 2008, BEST WRITER IS SIMON MARTIN.

Congratulations to the Winners. To those who missed out, maybe next time!

I have left some editing work here to be done by Jay Middleton (Best Editor)  :p
