Pictures from My Trip to Yankee Stadium

Bronx Baseball DailyApr 6, 2009

I got a chance to checkout the new Yankee Stadium for the first time this past Saturday as they beat the Cubs 10-1 in just their second game ever in the new digs.

I entered the game skeptical, but very excited to see the new place. I had high hopes for it, although I have to admit I thought the Manhattanization effect on the stadium would be too much for me to handle. It wasn’t. Overall, I definitely liked the new park.

The bleachers again serve beer, they are connected to the rest of the park, and the view is better than the old bleachers, mostly.

The new concourses make it so you can get up and get some food/beer without missing any of the action. Also people getting from place to place in the new park don’t have to walk in front of other fans.

More bathrooms and ATM’s.

In the old stadium you couldn’t see the scoreboard if you were too close to it. That is no longer an issue. Even from directly underneath it, you can see it all.

Cons

It's much harder for the average fan to get autographs. Players no longer walk into the stadium, they drive directly into it. Also, during batting practice, if you don’t have a ticket to the lower level area you are not allowed down there to grab a signature from your favorite player.

Security is poorly trained and is all over. You will no longer be able to walk over to your friend with seats across the park and sit next to them, even if they are sitting in the bleachers.

The Mohegan Sun bar is a great place to get a shot or a beer, but a terrible place to watch a game. Maybe it was just because it was an exhibition game, but I would estimate that at least 85 percent of fans in there could care less that a baseball game was going on.

Now, on to the pictures
