New York Knicks Unsung Hero: David Lee

Nick PucciApr 6, 2009

In only his third year in the league, David Lee of the New York Knicks is emerging as a star.  David helped the Knicks vastly this season, contributing to all of their wins and close losses. Sure, the Knicks still only have 30 wins and will without a doubt miss the playoffs, but they had many bright spots this season, the biggest being David Lee.

Second in the league only behind the Superstar Dwight Howard is David Lee, with 11.8 rebounds per game.  He lead the ENTIRE league in double-doubles with 61 out of 76 games (please keep in mind David was not a starter for the start of the season) and top 50 in scoring with 16.1 points per game.

He also is top 10 (seven to be exact) in field goal percentage behind several other superstars such as Shaquille O'neil, Dwight Howard, and Pau Gasol.

So, can anyone tell me why David Lee did not even make the reserve list as an East All-Star? I don't know. I do in fact know that he is severely underrated. David Lee's name is just only starting to get around because of his double-double streaks and his expiring contract this summer.

When people think of the Knicks key team members they may refer to the energetic Nate or the veteran Al Harrington, but in my eyes it is the 6'9'' center out of Florida University, David Lee.

We will see where David heads this summer, hopefully he can remain a Knick. He is the type of player you would want to keep on a roster for a long time, because of his passion and talent. He does his job everyday and never complains. He also fits Mike D'antoni's system very well because of his speed as a center, which is another reason I hope the Knicks are able to retain him.

Hopefully, David Lee can start earning some respect when the Knicks look to make huge acquisitions in the summer of 2010 and start winning more games. This will definitely add some media attention to this struggling team and maybe help spotlight David Lee (if a Knick).
