Alvin Kamara: Breaking Down What 4-Star RB Brings to College Football

Patrick ClarkeJun 8, 2018

The rich keep getting richer it seems.

Alvin Kamara is headed to the University of Alabama to join the defending national champion Crimson Tide according to ESPN.com.

Kamara, a 5'10", 195-pound running back out of Norcross, Georgia, was heavily pursued by both Georgia and Alabama before arriving at a decisionโ€”and for obvious reasons. The speedy playmaker has loads of potential and will no doubt make an impact early on in Tuscaloosa.

Here we'll break down what the 4-star prospect brings to college football.

Above-Average Hands

Alvin Kamara brings an exceptional pair of hands to the table, and he is capable of catching the ball better than some college wide receivers.ย

His versatility and ability to thrive as a receiver out of the backfield makes him a serious offensive threat at the college level. Whether he's taking a handoff from the quarterback or breaking out into the flat to catch a pass, Kamara's hands serve as a deadly weapon.

He also has a great feel for the ball, making him that much more valuable.

Hands are often an underrated and overlooked attribute when discussing running backs, but not when talking about Alvin Kamara and his many dynamic traits.

Incredible Agility

Kamara isn't the most elusive running back set to enter the college ranks in 2013. But he's certainly an agile one, capable of changing direction on a dime.

His ability to accelerate and maintain body balance on the move makes him that much more dangerous coming out of the backfield.

As a receiver, Kamara has the potential to become a fantastic route-runner and a player capable of beating defenders before the ball even arrives.

Although he does possess decent power, Kamara isn't going to succeed on power alone against fearsome SEC defenses. Instead, he'll need to take full advantage of his athleticism and his ability to make defenders miss with sharp cuts.

Great Speed

Speed kills, especially in the SEC.ย

That's why Kamara is headed to the right place to showcase his dynamic burst. In the SEC, the incoming playmaker will definitely have an abundance of opportunities to show off his quickness next season and beyond.

Look for Kamara's speed to impact how Nick Saban and company choose to utilize him. He boasts a threat on special teams as a return man and at various positions on offense.ย

Quickness and breakaway ability are not limited to one spot on the field. Kamara will feast on open space at the next level. Look for him to be lined up at multiple positions on the field, challenging the defense in more ways than one.
