What Happened to Wrestlemania?

Steve ChottApr 6, 2009

I am not the first to write a B/R article about the uproar WWE caused with this most recent stunt, totally destroying Wrestlemania. But I do ask a question: What has happened to Wrestlemania?

In past Wrestlemanias we have great moments such as Hulk over Andre, Steve Austin feuds with Vince McMahon, and Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit sharing a hug in the ring, after the two friends both won titles.

But this year's Wrestlemania was not even worth watching because all of these matches were very predictable, and after the show, I was right on most of them.

I didn't think CM Punk would win the MITB, but when you look at the people who were in it everyone should have expected the match to be crap. Did anyone really think Mark Henry could win, or even climb the ladder?

Then, the biggest disgrace occurred when Santino Marella came in and won a Divas Battle Royal. Vince and WWE could have done so much better with that match.

Now, for some odd reason, I guess I thought that Chris Jericho would lose to the legends, and I was disappointed when I saw that he won. Once again a poor decision, even if Mickey Rourke punched him after the match.

Matt Hardy vs. Jeff Hardy was probably one of the better matches, and how could it not be with the Hardys? Both of them are still great fighters and are very entertaining to watch.

I am just going to say, WOW! Rey Mysterio beating JBL in 21 seconds. Terrible decision.

Even though everyone can expect Undertaker is going to win and keep his Wrestlemania streak alive, they were seriously questioned in what was a great match between Undertaker and HBK.

Again, what a surprise that John Cena won another title at Wrestlemania. I am a fan of Cena but admit that I would like to see him lose for once.

I have seen mixed reviews on the HHH and Orton match, but I am happy that the Game won this match. The best storyline going in, but still very predictable that the Game would get his revenge.

Now I ask, what happened to the old Wrestlemanias?

What happened to the celebrities showing up and getting in their matches? Pete Rose being piledrived?

Mickey Rourke was there, but he was just a manager.

What happened to the feel-good moments?

Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit sharing a hug and celebration after Eddie beat Kurt Angle and Benoit beat HHH and Shawn Michaels.

All of this is gone. WWE needs to make better decisions when thinking over Wrestlemania.

We want to see surprises, we want to see these unbelievable matches.

We don't want to see a man win a Divas match, John Cena winning every year, and a 21-second match.

Please, WWE, put more thought into Wrestlemania 26 and make it one to remember.
