NFL Rumors: Latest Buzz Around Free Agency and Potential Trade Opportunities

Pete SchauerJun 8, 2018

We haven't even gotten to Super Bowl XLVII and the rumors are already beginning to surface.

From free agency rumblings to trade whispers, this offseason will have it all.

Here's some early speculation from the NFL rumor mill.

Greg Jennings Seeking Warmer Weather?

The Green Bay Packers' divisional round loss to the San Francisco 49ers may have been Greg Jennings' last game as a Packer.

As we all know, Jennings will be the premier receiver on the free-agent market this offseason and the Miami Dolphins could make a run at him, according to ESPN's James Walker:

"

Jennings once played under Miami rookie head coach Joe Philbin and knows the West Coast offense well. Miami also has plenty of cap room and will be looking for a No. 1 receiver.

"

Walker also reports that Jennings' Green Bay-area home is up for sale and that his sister went on a Twitter rant hinting at a Jennings-to-Miami deal.

The Dolphins are in dire need of a premier wide receiver, as Brian Hartline isn't exactly what you would call a No. 1 wideout in the NFL.

It'd definitely be a downgrade team-wise for Jennings, but the dude would be getting paid.

Darrelle Revis Heading to the West Coast?

Darrelle Revis rumors are going to be as common as Mark Sanchez interceptions this offseason, but ESPN's Adam Schefter (h/t Jane McManus) supplies us with the latest possiblity:

While this is only a suggestion from the NFL insider, it makes a ton of sense for both sides.

The weakest aspect of San Francisco's stingy defense is its secondary and the New York Jets are most definitely in the market for a quarterback.

The Jets could also use that second-round pick to bolster their offense with a wide receiver or look for depth at corner with the departure of Revis.

Again, this is just one angle that Schefter believes makes sense, but there haven't been any rumblings from the Jets or 49ers regarding any type of deal.

JaMarcus Russell Making a Comeback?

I thought this story was a sick joke when I first heard about it, but apparently a return to the NFL is a legitimate option for former No. 1 pick JaMarcus Russell.

After 31 failed games with the Oakland Raiders and three seasons out of the league, the 27-year-old QB is reported (per NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal) to be a possible target for the New York Jets.

Whether this is supposed to serve as motivation for Mark Sanchez or New York is really thinking about putting Russell under center, I can just see it now how this will play out in the New York media.

Trading the best corner in football and signing one of the biggest busts in NFL history?

My, my, the Jets certainly are building themselves a nice program here.

If people want to know why the Jets receive so much scrutiny, look no further than rumors like these.

Obviously, there's nothing remotely concrete between the Jets and Russell, but the fact that New York is even entertaining the idea certainly says something about the shape the organization is in.
