Although Barcelona was involved with many rumors during the transfer window, it is not surprising that the club decided not to make moves. The squad it solid and moves were not required.

But La Blaugrana did make one small move in January that was very smart. It was announced hours before the window closed that Isaac Cuenca would be joining Ajax on loan for the remainder of the season, and the move was nothing short of brilliant.

Isaac Cuenca broke into the first team during Pep Guardiola’s final season at Barcelona. His future looked bright, but this summer saw the 21-year-old undergo surgery on his right knee (via fcbarcelona).

The young winger was forced to miss substantial time due to his recovery, but was recently given the green light to return to action.

Cuenca’s future appears to be set with Barcelona, but the club knows that the youngster will need many minutes to make a full return to his best. Without being able to offer him much playing time, the Catalans were adamant that a loan move was needed.

It took until the very last day of the transfer window to convince the young star to leave as it appears he wanted to remain with the club. But Barcelona was finally able to convince him that a loan move was in his best interest.

The move is certainly a wise one for both Barcelona and Cuenca.

For Cuenca, the move will allow him to be a regular part of a first team. The minutes he will receive will most likely see the winger return to his best form, which is exactly what Barcelona will be hoping for.

Ajax are among the best in the world at developing young talent. Cuenca will gain valuable knowledge from the staff of Ajax that will only further his progression to becoming a star for Barcelona.

But the move is also in the favor of Barcelona.

The Catalans were able to send Cuenca out without allowing Ajax to receive an option to buy. This certainly means that after his stint with the Dutch club, Cuenca will return to Barcelona.

The move also allows Barcelona to not have to worry about finding minutes for the winger. The Catalans will be able to focus on matters at hand, while Cuenca is able to regain his form without pressure on his shoulders.

For both club and player, the move is a win-win.

Fans should expect Cuenca to make a full recovery and return to Barcelona in the summer. He appears to have a future at the club and this move is absolutely moving forward in the right direction.

Cules should keep a close eye on his time at the Dutch outfit, as Cuenca is likely to be a star. His time with Ajax will show everyone what potential he truly has and if he is destined to be another La Masia star for Barcelona.
