2013 College Football Recruits: Perfect Landing Places for Top Unsigned Stars

Kyle NewportJun 8, 2018

National signing day is almost here, and several big recruits can make the right choice when it comes time to announce their decisions.

The announcements will air all throughout Wednesday on ESPNU. As always, there will be some obvious choices and some surprise picks.

All eyes will be on the top recruits, who will be announcing their decisions before noon. National signing day can be a great day for a program, but it can also lead to false hopes.

The top of this year's class looks strong, and it will be interesting to see if any of those players shock the nation with their picks.

So where should the top players commit to?

Carl Lawson, DE

Auburn, Georgia Tech, Clemson and Tennessee all make his final list.

People will look at the SEC more than a mediocre ACC team, so he's better suited going to the nation's toughest conference. If he ends up in the SEC, he'll get a chance to go up against the best players in the country.

Auburn and Tennessee will be the most logical fits for Lawson, so it comes down to which school gives him a better chance to succeed.

The Tigers are bringing in Gus Malzahn as the new coach, and Tennessee is going through changes by bringing in Butch Jones to replace Derek Dooley.

Lawson would be an immediate difference-maker at Auburn; he will go with the smart pick and be a Tiger. If he goes anywhere else, it would be a major shock.

Matthew Thomas, OLB

Although he's from Miami, it would make more sense for him to commit to Florida State. Besides the Hurricanes and Seminoles, the other schools on his list are USC, Alabama and Georgia.

Florida State has a very talented defense, and he can learn how to play in the spotlight. Defenses don't get much better than Alabama, but he will get a better chance to shine if he stayed in the state of Florida.

The 5-star linebacker would have a chance to lead the Seminoles to the next step, as Florida State's defense would let him play fast and aggressive.

He would also get a chance to team up with E.J. Levenberry and Tyrell Lyons, which might be too intriguing for him to pass up.

There's no clear favorite for Thomas, but the smart choice would be going to Tallahassee.

Laremy Tunsil, OT

Offensive linemen should dream of going to Alabama to play football. With a new star running back every year, they will get plenty of chances to shine.

Tunsil is currently deciding between Alabama, Georgia and Ole Miss.

While Georgia has become a national power, Alabama is clearly the best destination. He can get a chance to learn from coach Nick Saban and become a winner.

As much as fans get tired of hearing about the SEC, there's no denying how good Alabama is. They have been blessed with talented running backs, but the offensive line deserves a lot of credit.

Tunsil would help solidify the future of the Crimson Tide line. Tuscaloosa gives him the best chance to further his career and go to the NFL.
