Warren Wells: Speed and Grace
Speed and Grace (Physical Attributes)
Since February 21, 2007, this researcher has done an Internet search on NFL data on selected players almost daily. One comment that is posted about Wells is his speed. Over the years, fans and his brother, Oscar Wells (now deceased), would say that Warren was doing mathematics on the football field. His angles, speed, and flexibility were considered refined and phenomenal. Warren Wells is so physically flexible that he can bend over like the instrument used to crack walnuts and pecans.

He can bend his legs in a manner that looks like an “N,” which has all sides coincident. No doubt this is one of the reasons he had so much speed—he had a special type of agility in his body. The angular rotation in the hip permitted him to bend so that his head and feet are almost coincident. Similarly, the angular rotation from head to knee and from foot to hip allowed him to align his body, demonstrating a higher degree of agility.

From high school through college, he trained under outstanding coaches such as Clifton J. Ozen (high school coach, Beaumont, Texas) and Alex Durley (college coach, Houston, Texas) and he continued that focused and disciplined training under John Madden. It can be argued that his stride is greater than the average player. Thus, he galloped so gracefully, he had the nickname “Warhorse.”
