Arsenal Transfer News: Arsene Wenger Wise to Seek Another Striker

Pete SchauerMay 31, 2018

Arsenal seems set at striker—and Arsene Wenger will tell you that himself—but you can never have too much firepower.

According to the Daily Mirror, Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis have discussed the idea of purchasing another scorer during the transfer window.

It's not to say the Gunners' manager isn't happy with what he has, but there's no doubting Arsenal could use another striker, as the Mirror writes.

"

Olivier Giroud has scored 13 goals this season and Theo Walcott has been in red-hot form, while Lukas Podolski has largely played wide left and Ivory Coast forward Gervinho has struggled badly this season.

Gunners boss Wenger admits his squad need a new forward - but is clearly hoping to muddle through to the summer, when Arsenal have insisted privately they will have big players in their sights.

"

Robin van Persie's departure to Manchester United has affected the Gunners' attack, as the Dutchman has scored 18 goals in the English Premier League this season for the Red Devils.

For Arsenal, it's not all about making the transfer happen immediately, but rather finding the right fit for the Gunners, as Wenger told the Mirror:

"

No [I don’t see it as a problem]. When you speak about ‘anyone’ coming in, I could just go out and buy anyone just to give people hope.

What is important is that you bring in players who can strengthen your team, or you do nothing and are strong enough to do nothing.

"

Lukas Podolski has also been a large contributor to the Gunners' attack, scoring seven goals and earning a team-high nine assists in the EPL this season, but Wenger wants more.

Given his history, you have to think Wenger is going to make a move and get the player he covets.

The Mirror confirmed that Arsenal enquired about Barcelona's David Villa only to be shot down by Barca.

According to ESPN, the Gunners are averaging two goals per game, highlighted by 15 goals in five matches during the month of Dec., when Arsenal went 4-0-1.

While there's certainly no deal in place for the Gunners, I can tell you not to get your hopes up about David Beckham joining Arsenal, as the Guardian reports that Beckham is strictly with the club for training purposes and will not be signed (sorry, ladies).

Keep your eyes peeled for the Gunners to make a move on a scorer as they attempt to make their way up the EPL table and into the top four.
