Huge Update On John Cena Vs Hulk Hogan Match!
As many know by now, John Cena was not supposed to be in the Main Event at Wrestlemania 25. He was really supposed to wrestle Hulk Hogan. However, this was planned before Batista got hurt a little while back.
Now Batista was a real blow to the WWE, because they had slated him to take on either Cena or Edge at Wrestlemania this year. But since he got hurt that was impossible to do.
Once this happened the WWE could really do nothing. Because they had no one for Edge to take on other than Undertaker from SmackDown. Triple H was a possibility at the time, but Vince really wanted him to take on Randy Orton—which I really think paid off, because that rivalry looks to be one of the best going in to Wrestlemania that I have ever seen.
Of course The Undertaker taking on Edge would work, but more people backstage wanted to see Shawn Michaels/Undertaker, and I am sure more fans did too.
The fact is that Hogan could not wrestle anyone. He could have faced Cena, but really the main event would be boring between Big Show and Edge.
So the decision to keep him out was better in my opinion. But he did have a bit to say about it in a recent interview, here is a snippet of the interview:
You know what, I was supposed to wrestle John Cena for the title, and about four weeks ago I had back surgery.
Vince and I were talking about how much involvement I wanted to have in Wrestlemania, and if I wanted to keep wrestling, and out of nowhere my back just got really crazy.
I went in for an MRI and I had to have some emergency surgery that threw me out of the game. I was kind of flipped out about it, I thought I’d be the main event this year.”
I can safely say that Hulk Hogan would not wrestle John Cena in the main event at Wrestlemania. It just would not happen.
I think Hogan was saying this jokingly, so I would not take it to heart. But with the WWE, you never know. Personally I think if I wanted to see a great wrestling match at Mania. I would not want those two wrestling in it.
Hogan cannot hold a great match anymore. Sure he can still get in there and do a few spots, but that is about it.
Now I think Cena is a good wrestler, and I am sure he would wrestle Hogan if told to. But I don't think many fans would be in favor of it.
Sure Hogan is a Legend, and this is the 25th Anniversary of Wrestlemania. But Hogan should do a promo in the ring or something, nothing more.
After his match with The Rock, I just can't see him back in the ring again. That was probably the last good match I saw him in.
Surprisingly people were behind Hogan, and he was the heel going in. Rock was the face and he was booed. Probably one of the only matches I have ever got goosebumps watching.
Rock ended up winning, but Hogan did great in the match. Some say that it was one of the best Wrestlemania matches ever. I agree with that personally.
So seeing that match people thought that it was sort of a passing of the torch. Which it kind of was, because of what Hogan did The Rock did. He went into movies and did wrestling too.
Rock ended up staying in Hollywood, so people thought, especially the WWE, that having Hogan face Cena would do that passing of the torch kind of thing.
I don't think I could see Hogan put on as great a match as he did then. So with that said Hogan vs Cena should not happen.
Now Cena has challenged The Rock to a match at Wrestlemania 26. If they end up having this match, which would be great for all fans. Then that would be the match to see.
But Rock has said he really does not want to get back into the ring. If he gets in the Hall of Fame though, he may do the match. So we will have to see on that.
Is it just me who would rather not see Cena vs Hogan? You decide and let me know
