Gregg Williams Reportedly Close to Being Named Titans Assistant Head Coach

Mike MoraitisJun 8, 2018

Former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator and recently fired St. Louis Rams defensive coordinator Gregg Williams looks to be on the verge of getting himself a new job.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Williams is close to becoming the assistant head coach of the Tennessee Titans:

"

Filed to ESPN: Suspended former Saints DC Gregg Williams already has met with Titans and is on verge of becoming Tennessee’s assistant HC.

Williams was a part of the "Bountygate" scandal as a member of the Saints coaching staff and was suspended indefinitely. While he hasn't been reinstated by the league yet, Williams is allowed to pursue jobs.

Williams has been and will continue to be a hot topic for NFL fans everywhere, and now that debate could be coming to Tennessee. The most damaging evidence against Williams was audio recordings of a pregame speech he gave to his former team (per ESPN.com).

Saints head coach Sean Payton has already been reinstated by the NFL, so chances are Williams' being reinstated isn't too far away.

Williams was hired by the Rams before the start of the 2012 season but missed all of it thanks to the suspension. Williams has since been fired by St. Louis, thus opening him up to other work.

Led by head coach Mike Munchak, the Titans last season didn't fare so well on the defensive side of the ball, which happens to be Williams' specialty.

Tennessee ranked No. 24 and No. 26 against the run and pass, respectively, so one can assume Williams would be brought on to help this struggling defensive unit.

The Titans finished 6-10 this season and failed to make the playoffs.
