With Jay Cutler Off the Board, Where Does Tampa Bay Look Next? Brady Quinn?

Erin McLaughlinApr 2, 2009

After failing to land Jay Cutler, the Bucs still need a quarterback. This is the NFL, so there is no time feel sorry for yourself. They have to move on.

Who is still out there? Well Cleveland has a couple of young prospects and are open to unloading one. For Tampa Bay, I think Brady Quinn would be the better choice. The main reason being is that there are a couple of guys there that have done well with him.

The first one is obviously Kellen Winslow. Yes I know he played with both Quinn and Derek Anderson. However if you watch the game film, you really sense that Quinn and Winslow really had a good chemistry.

You also get the sense that Winslow really liked having Quinn as his quarterback. Plus, Quinn was always good at getting the tight end involved at Notre Dame. Anthony Fasano and John Carlson can both vouch for that.

The second guy would be Maurice Stovall. I realize he has been a bit of a disappointment, but Quinn made him look like a superstar at Notre Dame. So if anybody can get this guy to perform it is Quinn.

Another reason to pursue him is that he is a natural leader and will take control of that offense immediately. Anybody who has played with him will tell you that.

Now comes the part where to decide what to trade for him. Luke McCown and a high draft pick could do the trick. An older veteran on defense might work to.

Yes, the Bucs will take a risk on an unproven player, but knowing what I know about him it is a calculated risk that is worth taking.
